Hello there, im having a few problems with a graphics card , its a 9800 gtx 512mb bought from here a few weeks ago , the computer isnt loading , it kept coming up with error message saying there wasnt enough power.

I got an extra cable as there was only one of the graphics card power cables on my psu too fix this but i still get artifacts even at hardware level when the bootuip screen comes on , im running a quad core 2.4 with a 350w psu

could this problem be directly related to the power supply or should that be fine , also is it possible the graphics card is faulty or would the artifacts and lines i am seein fall in line with the card not getting enough power too it

any advice greatly appreciated

almost certianly needs a beefier power supply.
However, with it being a dell, it could be a BTX layout case which could make upgrading tricky :/

so do you think these artifacts are a direct cause of the psu???

theres around 10 mm from the motherboard from the psu for expansion and the psu pops into place with a clip type thing holding it

The PSU that Dell is most likely using are generic crap that are only ok to run standard desktop with intergrated graphic, but not gaming graphic cards, and only 350W is certainly not helping (you'd lucky if the PSU would deliver stable 70% of the 350W, which I doubt).

May be grab a Corsair CX400W?

I'd be more suspect of the card tbh.

I say this as a mate of mine has a Dell PC with an 8800GTS in it which he retro fitted, it runs perfectly.

It has a 300W PSU !

In my somewhat limited experience, artifacts are a poorly card rather than a failing PSU.

Having recently bought a new PSU from OC/UK, I would advise £50 as a minimum price point.

I say this as its what the helpful chap behind the counter suggested! :D
