lately ive been having my computer powering off randomly and artifacting and crashing in 3d games, even after complete OS reinstalls, i started changing out components that i had older replacements for, so when i switched out my 9800GTX+ for my ancient gforce 7600, and despite the 15 fps the system became stable, 2d performance even improved, so i figure the 9800 must be dying, its out of warranty now so i was wondering if anyone can recommend a sub £200 card to me, specifically ive been looking at the 560ti or the amd 7850.

The 7850 looked better on paper, with better performance and lower power, but everywhere seems to be out of stock with 5 week lead times, so i started looking around and tomshardware and plenty of other places seem to indicate the 7850 has real stability issues even as a single card.
Given that ive been wary of the AMD drivers since my last AMD card (especially under linux) im starting to doubt the 7850 and so im looking at the 560ti for £30 less and plenty of available stock, is there anything else i should consider?

The cards were engineering samples and if you look on the OcUK forums plenty of people have had no issues with them.

In fact there is a large thread on this forums concerning HD7850 2GB overclocking. People have been hitting 30% to 40% overclocks on them despite the card using a single PCI-E power connector.

The nearest Nvidia card is the GTX560TI 448 which is around the same price and almost the same speed as a GTX570. However, games like BF3 do seem to use around 1.5GB once you turn the settings up,although with other games they tend to use less VRAM.

if i could get a 1.28GB GTX 560 Ti 448 for £150 would that change anything? or is the 7850 still the better deal?

What Kelt links to will beat the 560ti easily and you have plenty of room for an OC on these cards. The 1.28GB of the 560 will also be a bit of a bind with the latest games commanding more VRAM, for higher settings. 2GB will see you safe for quite a while :)

thanks guys, i think that HIS 7850, might be the one, while they seem similar at stock, looking at the OC's acheived on the other thread here it does seem insanely good compared to the 560 ti, even the 448 model, without even having to up the voltage.
just gotta hope fglrx doesnt give me any issues under linux now :)
