I have an old 9700LE which if my memory serves me correctly is just a lower clocked 9700. Anyway the fan has packed up it only turns once every second or two and is very noisy. It's an old card I don't really care about so I just unplugged the fan for now, the machine does not do much more than browse the web so the card should be under low load.

You guys think this is safe?
 
I personally wouldn't recommend it unless your case has particularly good airflow... Just dig up an old case fan and stick it next to the heatsink or something?
