Looking for a graphics card for a Windows 2008 R2 Server.

The main requirement is something that auto-downclocks on idle, to save power and reduce heat. Performance is not all that important so some lowend card.

Passively cooled would be good or just something that is silent.

I know that ATI do not support 2008 R2 so their catalyst drivers will not install.
Im not sure what NVidias support is like for the OS.

I do have a server with an ati 3450, however the drivers are very old (from 2007) and it does not support the auto down clocking feature.

I have a passively cooled Nvidia 6200LE in my server running W2K8 R2.

Not sure about the whole clocking down thing, but it remains cold to the touch.

Which drivers do you download for Windows 2008 R2? I only see Windows 2003 x64 listed on the Nvidia website.

Utter rubbish, all our servers have ATI video chipsets.

That was just from personal experience, only the drivers from the original cd would install properly for the card (which are now 4 years old). Most problems seemed to revolve around the control center.

Utter rubbish, all our servers have ATI video chipsets.

Are they HP ProLiants or Dell?

Looking at some of the current ProLiants, the ML370 G6 has a ATI RN50 video chipset and the DL380 G7 an ATI ES1000. I'd guess they have different drivers from consumer grade Radeon cards...

For those running atis within servers are those consumer graphics cards or specific business versions(firepro)/onboard solutions?

How many boards have built in video?

Of the 5 machines I have here, only 1 (my HTPC) has onboard video and that was specifically selected for that reason.

Server mobos =! consumer level.

Most will have onboard video
