Graphics card for Minecraft

Don't forget most of you are running gaming machines and have not seen minecraft running on older computers, you are just assuming.

The most recent update to 1.8 has caused quite a few people problems with older computers, just check the official forums. It is not a demanding game in terms of AAA PC titles but is will still need some grunt at 1080p/Max distance/"Fancy" Graphics.

My 2500K&5850 tear it a new one like most of you will see, but get it running on a 3 year old laptop with "dedicated" Nvidia graphics and you are going to get a shock how badly it runs with everything maxed.

Don't forget minecraft is programmed on the ever inefficient Java, and is not programmed particularly well in the grand scheme of things.

So make sure if you do want to max it out you get yourself a decent discrete card, I am not talking £150+, just a decent discrete card, certainly not integrated graphics.

They also do AMD Athlon systems in the Value Home systems here

Minecraft runs at many hundreds of FPS on my 6950 ofc but if i was usng the Intel HD graphics they wouldn't have a problem I'm sure. It is a good looking game at the end of the day, and it can require some grunt. A cheap discrete graphics card will definitely do the job.
