Hi All,

Looking to get a new gfx card for the setup below.

Mainly play BF4 and Rome 2 at the moment and looking at getting farcry 4 and dragon age also.

Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0
AMD 8320 at 4GHZ
Superflower Golden Green 650W
Phantek Enthoo Luxe
Radeon 5850

Id get the one humbug linked. It's cheaper and performance wise its same as a 970. It runs hotter than a 970 and maybe produce more noise but no more than what all your case fans etc will produce unless they start running over 60%

Also has 4 games which you can sell if you dont want them making it best bang for buck.

AND most importantly which people have forgot seen as you play BF4 mainly is Mantle which will make BF4 run much more smoothly than DX and give you a nice noticeable FPS increase which would make it faster than a 970 in this game.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

That's what I thought at first but I have just had 4 gigabyte 280x's that have all had to be RMA'd due to not working correctly. I was aiming to move to NVIDIA in the vain hope I will get a card that works out of the box and drivers that don't cause issue's.

the games and saving are a non issue for me I would rather have something that performs and will perform up to a high standard and preferably a little bit quieter than the typical cards.

Saying that I can't decide between the 290 pcs+ (coil whine reduction!!!!) or the MSI 970!

That's rather unlucky mate! I've been with AMD/ATi since as long as i can remember and never once had to RMA or had a card break/die on me. But i guess it's just luck!

If you really desire to go with Nvidia then get the 970 as it's a cracking card and most overclock quite well. Only problem is a lot of users have reported coil whine with the 900 series cards. Mainly MSI models.

The 290 series cards do get coil whine too but its less heard of and the PCS+ do have glued capacitors so shouldn't be a problem for that card.

TBH both are cracking cards and i'm sure you wont be disappointed with either. The 290 PCS+ gets my vote but its only advice/food for thought. If you wana try green who are more known for quality/less RMA then go for it mate :)

All the reviews look great for the PCS+ so it's really tempting. Just looked at the humbug one aswell! :)

Will have a look and buy just before the deals end/ they run out!!

I'm looking at the 970's as I want to give NVIDIA a go. I have used only AMD cards up to this point so I will see how they are.

At the moment I'm stuck between the MSI, EVGA or the Galax black edition.

I would have bought the MSI already but I have a blue mobo and a black case with black and white case fans! Just saw the asus strix also what are the thoughts on this card? Justify the extra or is just the same as the MSI with a different badge?
