Graphics card gone mental!?!?

Didn't have much time last night but I did have time to quickly test the comp with a different monitor which I know works perfectly. And I had the same problem, started the computer and although it was making good computery sounds, got nothing on the display at all. At one point, the screen did come on but it was blank.
Tonight I hope to have chance to swap the power supply but I'm not holding much hope of it sorting things out. Sadly it could be the end of my plans for a media computer in the bedroom.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope it is the PSU after all the work you've put into it.So:-

graphics card - not the problem
monitor - not the problem
memory - unlikely
CPU - unlikely
mobo - maybe
PSU - likely

Fair summary?

Is the cmos battery ok......it still got charge?

I did wonder about that but wasn't sure if this would be likely to be a problem or if it might cause this type of problem.

I'll whip it out and see if it's still got charge or not.

Gonna try to the power supply tonight too. If neither of these are the problem I don't know what I'll do next.

Fingers crossed everyone!!! :o)

Well Well !
Try to get straight into the bios and leave it on screen for an hour or so

Take the board out of the PC and set it up on the bench, You can see things better and waggle connections etc

The problem is it's now not displaying anything on the screen. Didn't ahve much time to fiddle yesterday but will give it a go again tonight.

Sadly don't have a bench to set anything up on, nor any real room to do it anywhere...all space is taken up with boxes!!! As for reseating the CPU, that's not something I have ever done and wouldn't really feel confident in doing so.

Last night I tried changing the power supply for one which I know to be fine....and no difference at all. :o(

Also on the off chance that it might be a problem, I checked the BIOS battery and that's fine.

Really don't know what to do now. Think I'm gonna have to abandon the computer plans for now as I don't know what else I can check, and I can't really afford to purchase anything else. :o(

Unfortunately I don't have one to try. I think I'm gonna leave it for now and maybe give it another go ina while, or just salvage the network card, hard drives etc and wait till I can afford something else.

I had a s754 abit kn8 with a 6600GT PCI-E do that to me, it turned out to be the mobo - also had an old MII+ with a Voodoo2 do that, it was the mobo, so i threw the whole lot in the bin - all of it occured after i had moved the pc from my mums house to my dads - ebay a mobo and if it doesnt work, sink your fists into the case, that might work, and if it doesn't you'll feel better. sorry!

Believe me whilst Your problem is Bad, Imagine if it worked and failed intermittantly that's the worst kind of faults !

when You feel ready to start again take the Board from the case Strip it and clean and inspect it Then refit everything after that if you have no Joy You can with a clear concience throw it in the bin.. :D

Yeah you're right an intermitent problem would be worse I guess. at least thing way I know it's pretty much dead.

I'll give it a few days then I'll take it all apart and rebuild and if ity still doesn't work I'll bin it.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
