Graphics Card HD Component Cable Output Advice

Hi All.

I've got a BFG 9600 GT with a HD TV output along side two DVI connections and wondered if i was to hook this up to my 42" HDTV would it display a 1080p or a 1920x1080 resolution using this method.

The reason i ask this is because i've tried the DVI-HDMI approach but i cannot get any sound over HDMI as i do not have an internal SPDIF Cable to enable such a feature and i've tried hooking up via RCA and 3.5mm jacks and still cannot get any sound via this method and wondered if i should use either the HD Component cable supplied or use a VGA Cable?

Help!

What's the best approach HD Component Cables or VGA Cable as i've tried the DVI-HDMI method and get a smashing picture but no sound what ever i do.

VGA input on 1080p LCD TVs often only support 720p annoyingly.

Seperate sound is probably the best bet, or if your TV supports some kind of seperate sound input, use that.

Hiya Mate.

This is the thing i cannot run the sound seperately only if i connect it to the HiFi system thats halfway across the room this is my dilemma at the moment i don't have a cable long enough to do it.

The problem is i've got a cracking picture but no sound via the TV tried all methods only way i can get sound is to hook it up to my HiFi which i simply don't have the room to do it.

My TV does support DVI/RGB Audio In but it just don't work via the DVI-HDMI plugged in if i take it out no problems it works!

What about HD Component cables are they worth it and would it give the same picture as HDMI?

I don't know about HD component cables, but I would assume there wouldn't be much difference (if any) between VGA and component.

I may be wrong but I think they are essentially the same.

If i could get 1920x1080 over component cables via the adapter bundled with the graphics card i'd be happy atleast i could get sound via this method.

You could perhaps look for a converter that combines DVI and audio into HDMI - possibly expensive though.

On our LCD TV the seperate sound that's playing from the xbox360 (component input) still comes out of the TV speakers when the channel is switched to HDMI input (for the PC video input). Might be useful if something like that works for you.

I think you should be able to. You can always try - I'm sure you'll be able to tell if the quality is that much worse :)

Hi Chaps.

Just broke open the box and got the DVI-HD Component adapter ready i'll order the HD Component Cables tomorrow now tad to late to get them earlier but i'll give the Component a go and see what the results are.

I was just reading on Wikipedia that HD Component Cables can transfer 1080p signals depending on your TV Set so i just tried it with the Xbox 360 Component and it worked just popped the HDMI back in for the 360 less cable clutter for the time being.

I'll keep you posted fellas thanks for the help.

Good stuff.

Well if it works ok, it will probably be better for you anyway I think the 360 needs HDMI to perform to its full potential.

So you won't have to swap them at all once its all wired up.
