so quite a few weeks back I made a post about my card squealing I was told this is normal although on some games it gets pretty darn loud on minecraft the squealing actually goes to stupid levels, anyway I was running crysis 2 multilayer when I realised that the sound appears to be spreading to my speakers and im getting this odd kinda high pitched squeal through my speakers now :( kinda worried about this, anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening ?

could be an earthing problem ? issues with your wiring ????? Overloading your power sockets ???

Have you got a decent PSU ?

Could just be due to the onboard sound. Generally they're prone to interference, being stuck in a spare corner of an already packed mobo.

If you've got good speakers, you're probably just picking up some interference which is effecting the output.

Borrow one from a buddy to see if it solves the problem. Or just use the sound directly from one of the ATI's HDMI port, as I'm fairly sure that card carries audio over HDMI.

Who told you the squealing was normal?

some one on the oc forums said cards normally squeal I didnt seem that convinced either : / anyway I'll try to disable the the onboard ATI sound and report back

I had a sapphire 5850 and had no problems whatsoever (until it broke when I was watercooling). I got it RMAd and was given an ASUS 5850 as a replacement. With the new ASUS card I get the squeal through my speakers too. However, if I listen closely it is coming from the card too. Seeing as it didn't happen with my sapphire card I would say that your (and mine) card is faulty and if I were you I would RMA. The only reason I dont want to RMA is I am planning on upgrading at the end of the year and don't want to face another month or two waiting for the replacement.

P.s. I have tried with my onboard audio and with my Creative XFI Xtreme gamer sound card and the problem occurs with both.

Ah Guitarman0 it seems you and I do have the same issues with this card a month or two for a replacement?! sheesh ah well I guess I could just use my trusty 9600GT XD

Try updating the motherboard BIOS.
This can cure the issue.

To be fair, I noticed squealing the same so bought a Xonar D2X. The sound quality is far far superior, and it cured my ills.

windows bios upgrade often = bricked board, although its notthat bad if youve got dual bios etc.

asus d2 = shielded so fixes these issues normally.

squealing to some degree is "normal" and is often not accepted for an RMA, beyond a certain level though it is considered unacceptable and as such faulty. Unacceptable tends to mean you can hear it with your case sides on and the case isnt right up next to your head sort of thing. IT is also fixable with hot glue/blu tack or w/e.

Other options are vsync for certain games, my cards make more clicking and squealing when they are running a menu or something at like 2k fps than when they are in game, so i turned on vsync in that game and it stopped it happening, isnt very bad on mine though, kinda the same level of noise as a hdd with the case side on.
