Graphics card or CPU letting me down

It's being delivered today! Got to do a bios flash though which I've never done before! Bit scared I will brick the board :/
 
Jono, I was in that position last week, updraged from 2500k to 3770k and needed a bios update.

Just make sure you update the bios from a flash drive, i did mine from the HDD which after the bios flash failed to read the HDD and boot, so i had to reset CMOS, new install and all was good again.

Yes This^^

First time I have ever upgraded a MB bios but it was very easy :D but as above must use USB flash drive.

Yeh , I have found a useful utility on the MSI forums that specifically makes a proper bootable flash drive with whichever bios you select and it has a nice comprehensive list of instructions on how to do it. Will probably give it a go later :eek:
 
Arma 3 can use a lot of vram (I see 2.2gb ish average)
However a guy I know run a 3770k with an old gtx460(900mb vram) and still sees 30fps at 1080p,
not great I know but just about playable.
 
Cant say about arma, metro and tomb raider as i dont own them. But crysis 3 and bf3 are games that ive played on both an i5 and i7 ivy bridge with sli 670's, in both cpu use was very high with the i5, low gpu use, typically at 80%. Moving to the i7 seen a drop in cpu use and cards maxed out. No vram issues at the res i was using, (1920x1200). Even if the op were to drop the res down, the cpu will still be bottlenecking.
 
My 3770k arrived today :). Probably not going to get around to installing it until tomorrow or Sunday.

It is a Costa Rica chip though. Is that good? I have read that they are supposed to be better than the chips made in Malaysia.
 
Still a lottery, there were a few iffy batch numbers with the Costa Rica chips.

Mines a CR chip and clocks well, can't recall what batch though, think it's 323
 
Give us some over clocking and temperature numbers then we can see if its any good :D
Like many times i said i dont have 3770k cause after ****ing fail 3570k i had that could not do 4.5 on same cooling as my 5ghz sandy. I never bothered with 3770k :P

I would grab one that can do 4.9-5 tho :P
 
I know my 3570K holds my 7950s back in quite a few games at 4.3GHz even at 1440p. Dumping on AA helps make use of them, but those lower mins bug me. I see 100% cpu usage in a lot of games and know my gpus are starved.
 
Mine happily does 4.5ghz at 1.25v and 4.8 at 1.30 volts but the temps are a little high (80c under P95 and 70 in games) i know this isn't too high but got some new CPU fans coming, some new case fans and fan controller so that will help with temps.
