right got a prob that just started. Igot a leadtek 6800GT flashed to ultra (been running this for a year now at this spec no issues) recentlyhad new board/chip for last few days again no issues

Itook my card out of my pc tonight to try a mates card (same one/spec cause it just displays coloured lines across screen) to see if it was his rig/card (anyone know why it does this????) but when i put mine back in...... when i power it upthe first screendisplays normal then it gradually/randomly starts loosing/changing colours on screen and normal text starts turning into wierd symbols and missing lines. Never done this before now..... First thing i thought was overheating etc but nothing has changed and i had case open

checked all usual connections/plugs etc etc any ideas??? pleaaasseee

ta in advance

Did you have to install different drivers to get your friends card working? Might be your now getting some kind of driver conflict. Either this or you have damaged your graphics card by electro static discharge :( Try completely cleaning out your drivers for the graphics using driver cleaner and then reinstall the drivers.

I have no idea what it is, but I wouldn't have thought it's static. Static damage is almost always fatal. I.e. your card just wouldn't work at all. Someone might come along and correct me but that's always how I've seen it.

Sorry I can't help :(

it does this before i even boot into windows so drivers wouldnt even come into it. My matescard didnt even go past boot screen cause it was borked so didnt even try drivers (although they are same cards)

If i forked my card that it TOTALLY GUTTING and pretty ironic considering the reason why i was taking it out in the first place...... Ive taken the card out over 2 dozen times. cant see what i done different??

any other ideas or remedy?

is it seated in the slot firmly? Did you remember to connect the power to it? Is there dust in the slot hindering the connection? Check out all these things.

first thing i thought, re-installed it 6 times and like you said checked for dust by giving port a quick 'blow of air' and triple checked power.... even tried a different dedicated plug. even reset mb biosto be sure. was hoping someone experienced this

keepsuggestions coming please

do you have access to another PC you can try the card in?

not in my home but i think its a must do for the next stage....... was hoping it wouldnt get to that (hassle factor) and its gonnabe well ironic that i have to ask my m8 to try my gcard in his rig when thats the main reason why he was at my place and this whole prob came about  suppose its sort of funny in a sadistic way

With my 6800 GT, I once had a similar kind of problem where I took it out of the AGP slot and put it back in again. It caused the computer to restart before it got to the desktop. I have no ideas why this occurred but I reinstalled XP and it fixed the problem. Your problem is obviousl a little different as you gte a garbled display even before you reach windows. I think the only things you can try for now is putting in an old AGP card if you have one handy. See if that works OK. I'm not sure if reinstalling windows will be much good in this scenario. Load all the default BIOS settings.

i tried flashing the bios of the g/card to the original one i back'd up when i flashed it to an ultra over a year ago, I culd barley make out the screen with all the garble but managed to try and flash it

the funny thing with the issue i got is that it displays pictures near perfect i.e. the splash screen for m/board and windows bot is near perfect but any text like mboard boot/bios etc is all garbled

anyway i tried using both nvidia flash and leadteks wflash file and both fail, the wflash one says there is a conflict between vga bios and vga rom any ideas?

i think you have to use a certain command line switch to force the flash. something like -f or /f :)

cool ill give it a go

one other thing if i try to load windows i got colourd screen no use but if i load safe mode i can se the screen although colours little distorted

dos mode is useless with text garbled

I had the same problem with my 7800GT just before Xmas after taking it out to reseat the waterblock. Sometimes it would boot into XP fine, before corrupting the picture pretty quickly. But usually everything from the POST screen was jumbled up nonsense. I used my emergency X300se to check that it wasn't a motherboard problem, before trouncing over to a mates to get conformation that the card was borked.

It gave me a great excuse to buy an X1950 Pro, even though I'd have preferred to have waited for mid-range DX10 cards before upgrading.

sounds like the cards had it, if it doesnt work in ** mates machine dont bother figuring out why, its most likely static or something. Get a 1950pro, it'll show your 6800ultra up :p

tried it in 2 seperate machines and no go :( thats 2 6800GT's I got borked now :( :(

Makes me think corrupt bios now as I know its not the board/drivers/os

I tried flashing back to original bios and other GT bios's and says error of vga bios and rom file missmatch or something or other... even tho this was orig bios for card. I also cannot scan vga bios which again makes me think its borked bios. Tried flashing with same bios but no different.

Anyone tried erasing the vga bios before loading new one?? is it poss/ok to do???

Any other ideas?? as i really cant afford another g/card and if i did I dont want to buy an AGP which means new board/ram/cpu/gcard etc etc which is unaffordable for now

think i managed to flash it using the '-4' command i found on here which is the 'force update' dont seem to have made a difference:( wonder if leadtek will rma it
