graphics card problems

Hi,

i bought an asus dark knight 4870 1GB and i had problems with it, i posted some screen shot on here and you guys said it was a problem with the graphics card itself, so i sent it back to overclockers, and they tested it and said there was nothing wrong with it, so they sent it back, i installed it in my machine, and this happened

So if it's not the graphics card itself as overclockers are saying, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
 
1. Check GPU core temperature (RivaTuner, Everest). Maybe airflow in your case is bad, or maybe you cover GFX fan with another PCI card (like soundcard for example) that cause boiling your GPU.
2. Have you ever had GeForce before installed ? If so - do some cleaning in your OS (DriverCleaner for example).
 
my case temps are fine, so it's not an airflow problem and the gpu is running at 41 degrees at idle, so it doesn't seem to be a temperature issue
 
Check drivers to see if they are up to date and not conflicting as mentioned above. Another temp monitor you could use is GPU-Z, I would recommend that.

Is this particular issue contained to just WoW or is this an occurrence on all games and/or desktop?

It could also be an issue regarding your psu not being able to handle the power required for your system under load. What are your system specs?
 
well my system specs are as follows

E8400
4G corsair ram
Antec TP 750 Modular
HD4870
Coolermaster cosmos S
Windows xp

I've uninstalled all previous drivers of nvidia, used driver cleaner, my temps for the gpu were 41 degrees at idle, and i tried that gpu-z, and there were three different temperatures, one at 42, one at 47, and the other was running at 57, and still i get them same problem as in the pictures i posted. i haven't tried another game yet, so i'll find an old one and see how i get on. but currently it only happens in wow. I have a geforce 8800gt, and when i install that i have problems with wow. the screen just goes blank, the monitor light goes to orange, but the computer still runs, all i do is switch the computer off, and then start it up again, and all is well for an hour or two, i bought the HD4870, hoping it would cure this problem, but it's even worse than having the nvidia installed

Which would suggest an external factor.. It seems the 3D rendering is broken but the 2D overlays are ok.

Has the problem persisted over reinstalls of the operating system?

You BADLY need to swap out your psu my friend. Get that thing off your rig ASAP before it kills equipment...

...= underpowered gpu. Either your psu is dying or it was never up to the job.

He claims it's a 750w psu, so unless it's physically dying I don't think it's the case; 750w is more than plenty for a system like this. The system would completely kill itself upon any gpu/cpu load due to power shortages.

If the problem is contained only to WoW then it's a conflict of some sort within the game and/or display drivers.

Please try another taxing game and/or benchmarking test such as Furmark and post with the results, that'll help isolate the problem a little more.
 
format and reinstall the system as a last measure.....if you have tryed everytthing then back up your essentials and format it..
 
i should hope that it's not the psu, as i bought that from overclockers about a month ago, infact, everything in my rig is from overclockers, i've only recently done a clean install of wow after reformatting my hard drive, the only thing in the rig that isn't new is my hard drive which is a 250 gig maxtor and it's about 4 years old, is there any other peice of hardware which may cause a problem such as this?, and why say that the anec is a bad psu? i haven't read one bad review about it, some average, and quite a lot or good, but no warnings like it's going to kill all my equipment. i don't know if the problem would persist over re installs of the operating system, as i haven't re=installed the OS since i've had the card, when i first posted about this problem before i sent it back to overclockers i was running it on a 550w psu and it was doing the same thing, i think one of the only things left to do is get a new hard rive and start from scratch

well!,

it seems the problem is not just WoW, it happens with every game, BUT..... i've discovered that it only happens with all my games if i alter the video settings in the games menu, if i run the games at default settings, everything works just fine. So, can someone tell me what's wrong with having an antec TP 750, the guy who posted who told me to get it out my rig has me really worried now :confused:

Have you tried a friend's PSU yet... Have you tried reformatting/reinstalling your OS yet?

well, as previously stated, i only got the psu from overclockers about a month ago, when i originally installed the graphics card the first time round before i sent it back ( due to having the same problem) , i had the same Mobo, ram, and cpu, but evrything else was different, i had windows xp mce 550w psu, different case. and no i haven't tried re-installing the OS, i have only just installed it to be honest
 
Sorry for my 2 pence, but underpowered GPU doesn't mean PSU to be changed, because it's quite good, strong and efficient model. It means graphic card might not be plugged in properly - HD4870 needs to be powered with 2 power sockets.
