I was an ATI user until mid-week

now I have a 8800GTS (512MB) - I just spotted the in-built scaling option ...

and it looks pretty good I have to say - better than the upscaling in my Dell 2407 I think

just been trying FSX @ 1680 upscaled to 1900 - with 16xFSAA - and looks rather nice

anyone else compared ?

cheers, Mark.

ATI cards upscale too. The main difference is nVIDIA cards can upscale and keep aspect ratio - a handy difference if you want to play games that don't support widescreen on a widescreen monitor. For images at the correct aspect ratio there's essentially no difference.

I've used an X1800XT and an 8800GT with my 2407wfp. To be honest both of them looked pretty decent upscaled, although native is the way to go if you can acheive the required framerate.

The 2407 has a built in Farouja (sp?) video processor that helps with upscaling. It only works in gaming or multimedia modes though and is turned off in the default desktop mode.

I think it would be nice to see a PC graphics card with a dedicated scaling chip on board. The Xbox 360 has one and it does a great job of upscaling images (especially anti-aliased) to a higher resolution.
