I have been out of the game as far as Graphics Cards are concerned and would like to know of what are the top 10 and where my aging 9800XT stands in that list? Even if it is in 49th position lol Maybe add the PC-i cards in there for a Top 20 if you can.

Appreciate the effort is someone does this.

Thanks

My AGP buying guide:-

9800 Pro(S/H), 6600 GT(S/H), 6800 GS(S/H), 7600GS (£82), 6800GT(S/H), X800XT(S/H) 7600GT (£118), x1950 Pro (£152)

I'd put your 9800XT somewhere between the 9800 Pro and the 6600GT (nearer the Pro obviously).

This isn't an exhaustive list, merely a buying guide for price ranges that covers most AGP buyers.

That list looks about right although I rather suspect the 6800GS will be closer to the 6800GT than the 7600GS. :)

you suspect correctly.... :p

although i haven't owned a 6800gs, i've owned the other 2 and the 7600gs is fair bit slower than a 6800gt. :)

How do the AGP and PC-I ones compare, say like the 1950pro to the PC- I version?

pretty much identical in game performance. the agp lags a little behind when it comes to cpu usage when playing hi-def video. :)

So if I got a second hand X800XT then I would see an improvement over my 9800XT?

Would it be much?

that would be a great upgrade. you would notice a huge difference in gaming. :)

what's the rest of your specs?

Got AMD 64 3400+
Crucial - 1g 4400 (Another gig in post :) )
9800XT

Cant afford the PC-I upgrade yet so thought id give my computer a little boost.

Is the next one up from the X800Xt a X1950pro? And how do they compare.

What sort of boost from 9800XT to X800XT? 10%..20%?

And what from X800XT to X1950Pro?

Thanks

Thanks Guys, I'll swap the 6800 GS and the 7600 GS over.

AGP Cards:-

9800 Pro(S/H), 6600 GT(S/H), 7600 GS (£80), 6800 GS(S/H), 6800 GT(S/H), X800 XT(S/H), 7600 GT (£118), x1950 Pro (£147)

Any other corrections/submissions?

The difference in price from a second hand x800xt (say £70-£90 depending on where it's bought from auction/mm etc) to a new 7600gt (£120) is worth it for the extra performance! Plus you'd get an intact warranty! Nothing more annoying than buying something only for it to break a month later and not be able to get a replacement!

Remember with that you'd get a general boost in performance and SM3!

If you look at this one on OCUK and read the reviews the owners are very happy! Plus a few have upgraded from cards similar to your own which should give you a good idea of the improvement you'd see!

However, for only another £30 or so the x1950pro is a real powerhouse!

7600GT is a fantastic card for the money and much better then the X800XT. I upgraded from 9800Pro to 7600GT and noticed atleast a doubling in performance if not more. I went from playing FEAR on low-med settings with a 1024x768 res to maxed out settings on 1280x1024. I havent come across a game it can't handle beautifully.

Seeing as I have a motherboard that takes PCI-E and AGP I plan on upgrading from the AGP to the PCI-E version.

If you're interested then please post a message in the wanted area of the members market as we cannot discuss it further here. I could give you a nice discount on the going rate for them :)

i'd go for a new card wherever possible just for the warranty. i've had 2 bad experiences - and one time i was the seller  i sold a 6800gt and it was working perfectly, turned up the other end DOA. luckily i included the receipt and an RMA was sorted. still it was an inconvenience for my buyer. :o

and i've also bought a card that subsequently died. cost me 90 sheets for an x800xt and it was dead within 2 months. no warranty on that so i lost out. :(

Is there any card that could go between an X800XT and a 7600GT? Maybe I'll just put some dots...

9800 Pro(S/H), 6600 GT(S/H), 7600 GS (£82), 6800 GS(S/H), 6800 GT(S/H), X800 XT(S/H)..., 7600 GT (£118)..., x1950 Pro (£152)
