So Ive sold my ATI 6990 for £300. I only game at 1080p so it was probably over specced in the first place.
I can probably chuck another £150-200 into the budget.

Not particularly looking for a performance increase as the 6990 ran every game Ive got faultlessly, but conversely I dont want to lose performance.

If it was your money what would you recommend?

Single GPUs though please, fed up of faffing around waiting for Crossfire drivers and annoying micro-stuttering

No preference either way towards AMD or NVIDIA.

I think a 7950 would do what you want, lower power consumption aswell, and you'd be left some money over too which is always a good thing.

Either a 7950/7970 or 670/680 with an overclock should match/beat the 6990 in most games. So it's down to how much you really want to spend and which brand you'll go with.

The 7970's are nice cards but I would say that .... Many people That have the 7950 will tell you they are ver easy to OC and you end up with only being 5% To 10% or so away from a 7970 anyway so it's for you to decide if 5% 10% ish is worth £30 :)

from what ive seen, the 7970 has 10% more performance, i would get a 7950 tbh, im planning on getting a whole new system soon and im running a 6990 at 1080p aswell.

i will also going with a 7950 but i will be going crossfire

I went with a 7970 Ghz as i have a matx case (therefore a mATX mobo) and knew i wouldnt be able to gain the extra performance with high overclocks from a 7950, i then dropped the voltage down as far as it could go keeping clocks of 1100/1500.

In my opnion I would pay up to £50 more for a 7970 with same/better cooling solution instead a 7950. (more than that doesn't worth)

Usually people say that you can overclock your 7950 to match a 7970, but you can also overclock the 7970 and the memories on the 7970's should go further.

It's less than 5% difference between a 7970 and a 7950 (clock for clock) and they roughly overclock and "top out" at the same point. 5% doesn't equate to a lot of FPS at all but it's up to you if it's worth it.

I would get this one:

Or this one:

Both cheaper than the one you linked and they're all the same really. The coolers are good on all linked models. There was a problem with the MSI model but this is now resolved.

well what res do u game at?

a 7970 performs better at very high res than a 6990. but if it's at 1080p/1440p the 6990 performs better

of course this all depends on the game and CF profiles

i game at 1080p, its also a very hot card, im always getting between 80-95 degrees while playing games
tbh graphic cards do run hot, 80-90 is ok. of course lower is always better..

my 6990 gets to 72-78c with a custom fan setting, and 82-85 on auto fan.
