Gah, all this talk of new cards is giving me itchy credit card again! What does everyone reckon is the best course of action for my current rig:

C2D 2.4 @ stock
Asus P5W DH
4gb Geil pc6400
HIS x1900 crossfire mastercard.

Originally I was going to crossfire with another x1900 but doesnt seem much point really now as running vista 64 ultimate.

Would I see a huge improvement going from the 1900 to a 640 8800 GTS or a X2900XT in current DX9 stuff?

Probably can spend under 200 plus whatever I can get for the old card. Can anyone give me an idea what the HIS master card is worth as cant seem to find any auction sites.

It's probably worth about £100 in members' market. Probably a bit higher if it's in very good condition with all accessories.

By the look of things atm 8800GTS seems to be the way to go, but wait for a few more driver releases from ATI and we'll probably see much better performance. (Please I have no intention of starting another 8800GTS vs HD2900XT thread!).

1900XT is more than enough for DX9 games IMO unless you are running crazy resolutions.

Oh yeah, probably would have helped if I put monitor down huh? ;)

1680 x 1050 on one of the Dell 21" widescreen jobbies.

The old card I think I got in September so still have the box and cables, cheers, ouch those 8800 GTS are tempting! Any thoughts on which one to go for, an OC or not worth it?

Cheers

sorry Chronic, just read your post again properly, x2900xt is backwards compatible to crossfire with an x1900 master card? Would that even work at the moment with the young drivers?

I don't think it would work! I thought you need the same card to crossfire/SLI

HIS x1900 crossfire mastercard.

Get a 2900 and use the x1900 with it (Not in crossfire) but so that the x1900 does physics and calculations and the 2900 Only does the image and 3d.

So then you have a card doing each instead of the card doing both and allso it will free up the cpu from doing physics aswell

If you have a good enough PSU that is, or you could just sell your 1900 and get a 2900
