Just a quick question do all new cards only use HDMI and DisplayPort ?
I think my screen only supports DVI
Thanks very much, which would be better HDMI or DP ? are they the same or is one better ?You can get HDMI to DVI adapters or cables, which are probably the cheapest/safest option
Or Displayport to DVI (but the one's OcUK have in stock are relatively expensive)
Note that neither are definitely guaranteed to work at anything better than 1080P/60hz, but certainly worth a try.
My basket at OcUK:
- 1 x OcUK Value HDMI to DVI Video Adapter (DV-006) (SKU: CB-028-OK) = £2.99
- 1 x OcUK Value 3m DVI to HDMI Gold Plated Cable (CDLDV-303) (SKU: CB-018-OK) = £6.79
- 1 x Akasa DisplayPort Adapter (active) on DVI - Black (AK-CBDP15-20BK) (SKU: CB-127-AK) = £15.95
Total: £25.73 (includes delivery: £0.00)
So will I be stuck at 1080 unless I get a new screen ? even if the card is better ?Note that neither are definitely guaranteed to work at anything better than 1080P/60hz, but certainly worth a try.
The issue is your monitor uses the relatively rare dual link DVI to support 2560x1600, which most adapters won't support. Thanks very much, which would be better HDMI or DP ? are they the same or is one better ?

Any suggestions on what I need to look for or search ?The issue is your monitor uses the relatively rare dual link DVI to support 2560x1600, which most adapters won't support.
You'll likely need to look elsewhere and check reviews for support as I don't think any of the adapters OcUK stock will give you what you need.
DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI-D active adapterAny suggestions on what I need to look for or search ?
Thanks ill take a look, I never thought I would have this issue.DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI-D active adapter
But as mentioned you will likely need to read the reviews as the quality and compatibility of them is very variable
I would say you've more than had your money's worth from the screen (they came out in 2007), so unfortunately you need to look at a new screen.Ok, this is starting look like im going to have issue.
So what are my option ?
Sell the screen and and get something else
Get a card with DVI
Keep looking for a adaptor
Your right, even if I did not get it in 2007, I think I've had about 5 years worth of use out of it.I would say you've more than had your money's worth from the screen (they came out in 2007), so unfortunately you need to look at a new screen.
As far as I know there aren't any high end cards with DVI still (the last ones were 2060 / 2070 I think).
Keep looking for a adaptor
I'd agree any used 5700/5700XT cards are likely to have been heavily mined on.Unless your getting a good deal on the older 5700xt I would buy new with warranty
1080P@60Hz has been easy to find anything beyond that has been the hard part.
Thanks looking at the spec list it saysI suspect the adapter I mentioned (AK-CBHD16-BK) is dual link, because it has enough pins and the data rate (in the specs page) they specify is sufficient *.
* Dual link is 9.9 Gbps according to wikipedia and Akasa say it supports 10.1 Gbps.
Thanks looking at the spec list it says
- Full 1080p resolutions supported
Thanks ill send them a message.Yeah, it might be worth firing off an email, because I think the vast majority of DVI-D monitors (that still exist anyhow) are full-HD (the one I'm typing on is), so I wonder if they just don't bother mentioning other resolutions.
Thanks, i'm keeping a eye out for one, im hoping with the 7000 series release and the sales coming I could save a little which I could spend elsewhere. Was originally looking at a 3060 but prices were too high so settled for Rx 6600, very pleased with this GPU.
Would i be loosing much using a RX 6600 with a normal adaptor, at least till I replace the screen ?
Sorry meant would i loose much performance if I used a DP to DVI (till I replace the monitor) or would i be better getting a monitor first.Nope, it doesn't care how it is connected.
