Hi guys, i'm new to PC building and this forum so hi everyone.

I've currently got the components on order for my first ever PC build and I had a question about the graphics card. I was a bit strapped for cash so i decided to go for a medium spec PC with the hope of slowly upgrading it into a decent gaming rig as i get more cash.

I've currently ordered the Asus GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3. With regards to upgrading in the future, would i be better off just swapping it out for a better card or going for dual graphics cards? If I go for dual graphics cards do they have to be the same card or just the same make?

Thanks XD

Bob

Hi and welcome
Youd be better getting a newer card tbh, but when it comes to SLI/crossfire set ups the general rule is that they have to be from the same cards series, but not necessarily the same manufacturer, to be sure though checkout NVidia/ATI

Okay thanks :) Thinking about it i'd probably want to go for a newer card first and then SLI that one so it lasts longer than if i Dual carded the one i've got at the minute.

Thanks again.

1.claimed.

2. I wouldn't bother SLI-ing the 9600gt. Just replace it with a faster card at some point.

thanks guys. I havent got the model details at hand but from memory

Abit motherboard
E5300 2.6Ghz dual core processor
9600 gt geforce graphics card
4gig memory DDR2
80gig western digital caviar blue hdd
erm i think its a 400w psu

I'll slowly upgrade to an i7 processor, increase the memory and change the graphics card.

I cant remember the specs of the motherboard but im pretty sure its the only Abit they sell since they're not doing mobos anymore. Only thing i wondered is that i think it only supports DDR2 memory and not DDR3. Will that become a problem at some point?

Thanks for your help guys.
