SO i decided to try and build a very low Budget PC. I got hold of an old Dell Vostro 460 (i5-2400 3.1GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD. I have seen others add Graphics cards to these and use them as very basic/budget gaming PC (Just Fortnite basically) I also bought a MSI radeon RX580 8gb.

So i installed WIN 10 before installing Graphics card. Everything loads fine. PC works. However the issue lies after i installed the graphics card. Nothing will load. The PC turns on. Fans spin on the CPU Cooler and the graphics card.

My initial thoughts were the card is damaged. I checked it in my own PC, works fine. My Next thought was maybe the PSU isnt powerful enough for the Card. i installed my PSU from my own PC and that didnt fix it.

My guesses as to the cause basically end there.... My final thought was maybe the MOBO isnt compatible....?

I would really appreciate any help with this please :)

Which graphics card? Did you change the BIOS settings in the Dell to prefer the add-in GPU?

I forgot to mention, i did try and go into the BIOS to see if i could stop on board graphics being default but there was absolutely nothing in the about graphics at all. It was strange, it was F2 for this PC which i have never seen before. (Unless that wasnt the BIOS)?

Could be down to the bios version
I have some old pc lying in the corner
Circa socket 939 possibly from my memory
It all works fine but will only work with cards older than around a gtx970 or so
As far as I recollect any way that was due to bios version too old for my gpu

F1 or f2 or esc are used to access bios by some makers and of course del

I checked BIOS version and it was A06. No later version has been publicly released so i have the most recent.

Then if others have done it
What graphics cards did they use?
And do you have an older card you could try/borrow?
If I don't reply again its because hit the 15 posts in 24 hours limit yet again
And can only post by editing previous post

Edit
And they said tried their psu
I realised the dell psu is low wattage

Im not actually sure what cards they previously used but i can try find out i guess. No older cards unfortunately that i can try.

I didnt know there was a 15 post limit.. that seems restrictive.

Yeah I would check what cards were successfully run
15 post limit is to stop new members bot spamming
But lasts 30 days very frustrating
Though mods/admins have tried to reduce it for me which is really good of them
But nothings been successfull so far lol
Most new members may not even notice but I like to help people a lot lol

Edit and that 15 counts each reply to a thread not just separate posts/threads

Tell us more.. (keep him talking to waste all his posts in this thread for the day) :D

With the original PSU how did you have the power hooked up to the graphics card? Oh, didn't the rx580 have issues with motherboards with non UEFI bioses?

I contacted Sapphire support, turns out all of their RX cards only support UEFI

Not sure if its definite, but it tallies with what I remember.

Now that's just cruel sense of humour hominid lol
Fingers crossed but the mods dropped it to 20 days for me and today's number 21 so hopefully its not going to block me at 15 posts any more

And yeah bios limitation was my thoughts too though wasn't aware about one specific to rx580

Im going to seem really dense here but i dont know the difference between UEFI....? is it just a type of BIOS?

I think my next question would be this then.... does it basically mean i need to buy a new MOBO and CPU? Ive looked on ebay and such and cannot seem to find any reasonably priced 1155 socket MOBOs out there.

If i do need to buy new what are the lowest/cheapest options i should be going for? This is supposed to be a budget build that my son can save and work on himself(with help)

suggestions would be great.

EUFI is the newer BIOS(Basic Input Output System) which is more secure mainly, but can look nicer and you can use the mouse etc - so yes.
