Graphics card...

Most graphics cards that are pwm controlled will start up at 100%pwm and drop down to a more sane level. As they get hotter so the fans spin faster. On the older cards the fan would kick in to full speed when a game was loaded.
 
Well the graphics card is a 6600 256MB.

I wasn't sure what it was at first, like right now as I type the computer is up like a jet engine. Loud.

Nah, that was when I turned it off, unplugged it then opened it. It's shut now yeah but I was just wondering why it always sounded so loud.
 
Also I want to ask. Looking at your sig you have DDR2 RAM. I currently have DDR RAM. Is there a big difference between DDR2 RAM and DDR RAM? How can I know if my motherboard is capable of DDR2 RAM? cheers.
 
Unless u count the number of pins :p its probably not a ddr2/ddr1 board. Check on the manuf website. Ddr2 memory is inherently faster, but many factors determine how much faster (intel vs amd system, quality of mem, etc)

I have a RAID motherboard. Its the MSI MS-7046 Motherboard.

Its okay to post that? But the top part is all I got from one site, still looking around though. I just thought since I had an Intel CPU which Intel were DDR2 compatible.
 
It's only the socket 775 intels that are DDR2 compatible. Going back to your question about it being a worthwhile upgrade from a 6600 256MB to a 7900GTO, then the answer is a resounding YES :D your gaming performance would probably quadruple what it currently is :D

It just did rise and that sucks, I got the money together and went to order and now its went back up in price, dammit why did that have to happen when im about to order :mad:
 
Also my screen is a 19'' TFT monitor, I get 1280x1024. If I buy the GTO what is the highest res I can get on it?
