hi
sorry another newbie question, i havent really a clue about graphics cards, i have been looking at the

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)

and the

XFX NVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB 8800 GT Alpha Dog

which one of these would you go for? and which one would benrfit me most running with my mobo and CPU
Mobo - asus maximus II formula
CPU - Q6700 (going to order shortly)

if you recommend any others please let me know.
Cheers

what about the OcUK Value GeForce GTX 260 "Core 216 55nm" 896MB GDDR3 Dual DVI (PCI-Express) + Mirror's Edge, there is only £5 difference but is there a massive difference in performance?

Maggo I assume you mean a massive difference between a 260 and a 8800 gt as between a 4870 and a 260 there is'nt much in it tbh.
I would go for the the 4870 over the 8800 gt any day 8800 cards are dated now compared but between the 4870 and 260 well the choice is yours realy like i say not much in it

I have a budget of £150 ish, I may be able to push a tiny bit more, I'm torn between the 260 and 4870 now

Would you consider 2 4770's in crossfire? Cost around the same as a 4870 and performs on average 20% better than a 4890.

If playing crysis better go for nvidia (as with most games), ati's fan boys are out in force today.

This is the card you need for your budget http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-101-GW&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927

or pay a little more and get the best one (best brand and speed is faster than 275 at stock) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-098-EA&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927 with evga when you card is out of date you can trade up and get your next evga card cheaper

You'd have to be off your head to pay over £200 for a 260GTX

They can be bought new for under £140 now and that's with a free game or 2 and pre overclocked.

It's a shame they are all 512mb cards, i doubt their are many/any games that will utilise the power of two 4770 cores before wanting to use more than 512mb of graphical memory. I'll think about getting a pair if the 1gb cards come out with a decent price tag.

ive been looking and i think i am going for this XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail, its at £145 in this weeks offer, when will this offer go off as i cant order until mid week.
