Looking to Upgrade from my GTX 295 to Go DX 11 and took a look at the last gen 5870 and 480 then took a look at 6870 and noticed the most expensive 6870 is more less expensive than the 5870? But I am looking mainly for an NVidia card due to CUDA and was wondering if a new 480 is due out soon?

Thanks,

Tythus

Hi there, to be honest I wouldn't make that upgrade (GTX 295 > GTX 480) unless you are planning to use the card for GPGPU duties, as the fermi is rather good at that, however in games it's performance is only slightly better than the GTX 295. Admitedly the minimum frame rates are generally higher and it does support DX11, but in my mind this is not worth spending ~£330 on.

The 6870 is not a great name for the card, it is really just a step up from the 5770. The 5870 soundly beats the 6870 in terms of games performance. Since the GTX 295 is faster than a 5870 then this would not be a good upgrade.

If you want a new card I strongly suggest you wait a month. The new GTX 580 from Nvidia is coming out next week and the next-generation AMD top-end cards (the 6900 series) is expected in the next month.
