Graphics cards

Alright guys,

Got my kid a few Lego games for his PC and it is struggling to run them. Looked in it the other day and it has a PCIx16 slot for a graphics card.

What is the best graphics card i can get for about £25 (second hand)

If i remember rightly you can cripple the CPU if you have a card too powerful for the machine, can't you? It only cost us £400 for the tower and monitor about 3 years ago so i am guessing it has some low end AMD CPU from back then. It is a HP iMedia tower.

Would something like a Nvidia 8800GT or a ATI 48XX be ok or would it be too much? (only card names a can remember from my pc days )

Without knowing the cpu, it'll a little hard to say. You could even end up bottlenecking something like the cards you mentioned. That aside, second hand is indeed your best bet. A 4850 / 70 or equivalent should do the job. More detail would be useful.

You cannot cripple the CPU so don't worry. Are you sure there is no PCI-e slot?

Ah it is a PCI-E slot and its a Packard Bell computer and has a Intel® Celeron® E1500 Dual-Core, not a HP or AMD like said in the OP.

A Packard Bell iMedia b2619uk to be precise.
