Graphics for 3x 2711's

There are benches out there but not many. While googling the other week to disprove some VRAM nonsense I was reading I found a really interesting thread on the EVGA forums where a guy had logged his progress on all kinds of multi-card set up's in Surround. He concluded on the same message as me but it was nice to see that he found the same and by testing all kinds of configurations.

But at your resolution of 1440 x3 you're even less likely to fin anything so it's tough. I think the only way to really tell would be to take the average difference between single 1080 and 1440 and then apply this difference in percentage terms to the 5760x1080 results.

It's not ideal but without a load of raw information you're always going to be compromising. I have about 5 games so far benched but these are just mainly from disproving people's preconceptions regarding VRAM so I need to check back on these results and then expand across my game collection :).

Was that CallsignVega by any chance ? Have a look at this if not.

I've been watching his videos on youtube, he's done loads of testing :)

I hadn't thought of working out a rough offset on framerates to give me an idea of what to expect, seems obvious now you've pointed it out (no :notworthy: icon available on here so have a  instead)

3 x 1080 x 1920 = 6220800

3 x 1440 x 2560 = 11059200

Thats nearly double the GPU grunt you need to run the lower resolution and with sli scaling the way it is you may be pushing it a bit.

have you seen any 3 screen 1440p benchmarks on quad SLI? because I can't find any - the only thing I have found is 3 screen 1080p and they do show some good gains in some games (quad SLI 670 doesn't work / isn't supported by nvidia)... I am not having a go, just asking as I'd love to see some test results

no probs mate,
What I meant to say the scaling from 3 to 4 cards makes Quad Sli not worth
it IMO .(future driver updates may well change this)

I've read this on a few review sites, I'll try to find them and put links up.

yes, that's what they said in May but as of yet no official statement has been made that it now works and forum users (the few that have tried) are saying that quad SLI 670 doesn't work but 3-way does

by all means try it but don't be overly suprised if you hit problems :D

yes mate - but the reviews I can find that say that are single screen, not 3 screen
on 3 screens you get some good boosts, so at 1440p I would think the scaling would be better as it's even more GPU limited :D

Quad sli is not known for working that well but 4 gpus still work better than 3 and to cut off the option of a 4th card in your setup could be a mistake.

As to whether nvidia ever gets around to sorting out drivers for quad 670 sli this could be a long time in comming.

This review on quad 680's has some info on 5760x1080 compares against 7970 trifire and quadfire.

They are only 2GB cards though could be partly why the 7970's pull ahead.

I found no difference between 2 and 4Gb cards in Sli, if anything the 4GB where slower than 2 GB but benched better.(don't ask)

It was when the 3rd 4GB card was added I found the leap in performance.

With your res I wouldn't want to say get 3 x 4GB cards as it would defo work, as I just don't know enough to state that.

Agreed. VRAM doesn't really come into it at present on 5760*1080. It may on BF3 if you don't turn Aero off. Otherwise you run at around 1950-2000MB on max settings.

For your res, it definitely will make a difference though.

No it wasn't. The thread I was reading was more in regards to the 2GB "debate" at 5760*1080 with 2-3 card SLI. Summary was 2GB is fine for 2 cards as the GPU's are limiting whereas for 3 cards, 4GB is more ideal as you'll have the GPU power to push the settings which can cause you to exceed 2GB (in the future games).

Not really all that relevant to you I know :p.

Hope your going to post pics when your rig is finished?

I've always meant to take photos of previous builds but always forgot in the heat of building but this time I have enough photos to bore the pants off anyone.

Case at the moment, excuse the tape around the pump top it marks easily so wanted to protect it until it's finished.

Will that case take 4 GPU's as you've only got 7 expansion slots?

You have a cunning plan I see :)
Involving a Dremmel perhaps?

PS.. Never too many photo's

May or may not involve a dremel, an old black case with a suitable expansion slot just begging to be snipped off and a pop riveter ;)

Only need to do that though if I want access to the second DVI on the bottom card. There is already a MB tray cut out and a space/grille below the bottom expansion slot that allows for a bottom two slot card.

Right, got a couple of weeks off and really need to pull the trigger on the graphics cards in the next day or two.

Was going for the EVGA 670 FTW 4GB x3 as they use the 680 PCB so blocks are easy to get and they seem to run a bit cooler than the 670 PCB

But (and for the fans of ample derriers) it's a big BUT...

Rusty's post on 7950's has got me a little confused again as they look good in CF but TF support still doesn't look brilliant and the posts of CF/TF issues with the R4E don't help.

Are 3x 670 4GB still my best bet ?

Rusty where are you........
