Graphics in photoshop

Hi,

Have a some questions that i need help with, i have a few wallpapers on my machine and would like to know how they are made?

I am interested in how the patterns are created? are they drawn in photoshop by very skilled people? or are they brushes you download and just paint the shape on? any other information on how this is done and how i could go about it myself would be much appreciated.

Think of it this way - everything is just a shape.

In those Wallpapers, it's very likely that the 'artist' used brushes, then simply applied a solid fill colour or a gradient. It's not difficult to draw your own shapes, either. If you haven't used the Pen Tool before, I suggest you read-up about how it works - it's extremely useful!

Those two images are very simple examples of how one may use the Pen Tool.
 
They look like they were made by just using photoshop brushes, this brush set looks like the one in the top image -

The designs in the 2nd image were probably made with Illustrator or the pen tool as mentioned then made into a brush.
