Graphics Issues!! HELP

Hello,

I am currently having some problems with the graphics on my desktop, recently some weird vertical coloured lines are appearing when just normally working on the internet and other programs. They appear in the top left corner of the screen where it tells what program your working on. I guessing that it is a problem with the grpahics card bececause i have had problems before. Im gonna try other card which is nvidia. My current card is an XFX ATI radeon HD 4850 512mb XXX Edition, I have also read of problems with this card from other forums. The lines also appear when shutting down and they stretch all across the screen but do not cover the screen.

Any ideas are appreciated thanks

nothing during boot, but not sure about safe mode. I have just swapped the cable into the other DVI port and no problems have yet occured so maybe its one of the ports?
