Graphics problems

I recently picked up fallout 3 in game for £5 a few days ago. I started playing and got to the apearance screen when the game artifacted and crashed. After a quik reset I got into the game with no problems. the last few days the games has been increasingly artifacting and then BSOD with artifacts. It says something about being stuck on an infinant loop before automaticly rebooting.

I read through the previous posts about fallout3 and it seems the game has problems and patching sometimes leads to more problems. Im currently using ati 512mb HD4870 with catalyst 9.2. I havent yet patched fallout due to people reporting other bugs appearing. Could this be a problem with fallout 3 or is it my gfx card dying? The only other game ive had problems with was timeshift and that was due to using vista 64.

I would patch it.

If you need to you can just reinstall.

Its hard to tell with Fallout 3 if its software or hardware related because there

are so many different ways it can crash on different machines.

It took me days to get it running on xp 32, but its fine on Vista 64!

im swinging towards it being software rather than hardware. My 4870 runs fine on other games. far cry 2 exits to desktop randomly after a few hours gameplay and for some reason is playing in windowed mode. guess ill patch catalyst drivers while im at it. Ill post back after if any more probs occur.

patched and updated catalyst and fallout 3. still getting crashes and more frequently too. Any ideas?
