Why has it recently become fashionable to spray your rims graphite, or buy graphite/black alloys.

They look hideous on 99% of cars. I see some really nice cars ruined by black alloys. I guess wealth and style/artistic judgement don't come hand in hand.
And to say they look good on black cars is even worse. Silver alloys look superior as there is contrast, improving the general visual balance of the car.

Classic example is that 599 in the Daily Encounters thread. Astonishing car, disgusting rims.

Anyone agree?

For those who haven't seen it...

If this country had dryer weather it would be fine, but the fad is carried out in substandard fashion and the weather doesn't help the look as they always appear dirty. On a dark coloured car its OK, but on most cars the wheels just look lost.

Bronze or Silver= w1n (or maybe pastel pink ;))

However nice mod-heads may think that looks. To me it looks like a 1.2 that some 17 year old has stuck a ridiculous exhaust on and some M stickers.

But it's not, don't confuse your ignorance with someone else's personal taste. I think black alloys look nice on cars that aren't dark in colour as it gives some contrast and breaks the car up a bit.

does silver wheeltrims that are now completely and totally black with brake dust and muck count?

I agree, I think the contrast is key. I just think 4 exhausts on a hatchback looks awful fullstop.

I think it looks awesome, and as said, just because to you it looks like a 1.2 (which doesn’t exist) doesn’t mean it does to everyone else does.

not to mention that modding cars is completely about the owners personal opinion not the general public

Hatchback?

Whilst those aren't standard exhausts I believe, the standard Coupe has 4 tail pipes.

That car is farily standard too in the looks department.

Do you know what car that is? It kind of needs those pipes. It wass only ever available with two engines, both producing well over 300bhp and putting it through the rear wheels with no electronic assistance at all.

Black alloys looks great especially the BMs black mods.

S54 (as pictured) has traction control.

S50 like mine doesn't.
