Cant believe it, since downloading the xbox update on monday night & the outfit demo, my 360 now keeps freezing within a few minutes of using it, this can either be a black sceen, white squares on the screen & a high pitch sound or just freezing as it is. Having rang MS its got to go back 3 days for a box to come & then another 5 for a replacement, whats this got to do with graw? well it got delivered today & id been looking forward to this one for ages & cant play the begger :(
Anyone else had these sorts of lock ups? Have tested the machine without the HD as I really dont want to send that back & lose my saves etc, needless to say it still locked up, im gutted, id had it since launch with only 1 previous lockup.

Take your HDD/Memory Card out, go to the System blade and select Initial Setup.

It's worth a shot.

The mandatory March update for Xbox 360 systems is causing major headaches for some people. In fact some are even recommending that you hold off on the update until Microsoft comments on the issue.

Users have been posting in the Xbox.com forums that after running the update on their systems the console will then freeze after 5 to 10 minutes of gameplay, and these comments are coming from people with no previous issues with their consoles.

The infamous "three rings" seem to be a common sign that the update has not done what it was meant to on your system.

Check out the thread at Xbox.com here, or post your own experiences in our own forums here.

talking off xbox 360s acting up today, i was cleaning my room and had crap all over the floor, pulled a wire, bang the 360 fell on the floor, and upon reebooting it red ringed me for 10 mins, then i left it and its been fine all day again, fingers crossed it stays ok, or il be on my 3rd 360. this one's survived the fanta inncident thou.

I nearly fried mine today, playing it with the door shut on the cabinet. It always runs cool, when i remembered and opened the door the fans where going nuts. The noise from the dvd player was no longer an issue ;)

Hi,

Mine had run flwalessly since i bought it on release day until this latest update from miscrosoft :( Luckily it was just the once but i left it downloading from the marketplace retunred and the machine had locked up with garbled graphics. The update defiantley has cuased this becuase i havent had one sinlge problem with it prior to the latest update!

Anyone think they should have a rollback feature ala XP lol

Cheers,
Hugest

I havent connected it so no problem for me :) I had a broken one with the drive gone bad but they turned it round in 7 days, well impressive. No other console has released with a service like that I think ?

I didnt realise the fans were thermistor controlled, 2x60mm I think or is there more inside

Was just gonna mention the Fanta incident, thats one tough box!

update has been fine for me so cannot see how the update is causing these problems, its gotta be a download or install/flash problem as the update itself for the majority seems fine

had the The infamous "three rings" fault a few days ago. This was a day or 2 after the march update, so not sure it could be linked? it was a release day xbox360.

took it back to the shop it was bought from and got a replacement straight away.

Well looking on the official xbox forums there does seem to be other people with the problem since the update, I think it could be a prob with some of the early ones. Anyway currently waiting for a box to come which will be 3 working days & then send it away in that & wait another 5 working days apparantly, although ive heard that some folks have been waiting longer for a machine to come :(
