Was looking at maybe changing the stock air filter for something a little better!

Maybe the Green panel filter, or pipercross.

Do this need to be declared to the insurers? There's no real performance increase, just a little more exhaust noise?

Worth doing?

Many would disagree, but I wouldn't.
An induction kit is different, but I'd not declare a replacement panel filter.

This is what I was thinking...

Would it be worth it though, the exhaust is fairly quite as standard... just fancy a tiny bit more noise!

I certainly wouldn't declare a replacement panel filter. That's getting in to the realm of declaring non-standard spark plugs or a kwik-fit exhaust!

Are you saying that a panel filter will DEFINITELY increase induction noise then? 'Cos on my previous car i noticed no difference at all.
Placebo effect says yes it definately will. Reality, engine design and first hand experience dictates only that it may.

Mine is defo louder! :D

What car do you have by the way? (Ethos)

I ordered a k&n for £25 on ebay for my focus, will let you know if theres any difference at all.

Apparently if you remove the resonator box on the focus it creates more noise...might be worth looking into.

I'm in a Vec C which is sound deadened to death and I can hear the filter on acceleration. It's in the standard airbox and all I've added is a better cold air feed. I won't say definitely but I find it hard to believe it makes no difference at all.

There is no reason why a replacement pannel filter should cause an increase in induction noise if the rest of the induction system is standard. I had a K&N panel filter in my Civic for a while, and couldn't tell any difference between that and the standard paper filter.
