I bought a bottle of Holland and Barrat green tea extract today, and it is 315mg per capsule, 15% polyphenols. This cost £4.50.

On the myprotein ones it is 450mg standardised to 98% polyphenols and 50% EGCG, for some comparison. This costs £9.95 + P&P.

I am just wondering which one I should get next time they both run out?

As per usual the Holland & Barrett is poor quality, that's why they always have 99% off sales yet still make money ;)

Avoid H&B whenever possible.

Another example is a mate of mine owns his own gym and he gets the bodyfortress whey that H&B sell for something like £25 a tub... he pays just £1 per tub and he doesn't even buy that many, so think how cheap H&B get it!!!

It's also crap imho, as I had to buy some about 3 weeks ago as MP let me down with a very slow delivery. Nothing but gas and wind from it, my body just couldn't seem to digest it properly.

Thanks. I had a feeling I would be recommended against the H&B one.

I was just wondering, what exactly do the polyphenols do? Are they the things that increase the metabolism or is it the EGCG?

Really? :), I've occasionally had vitamin tablets from there thinking they were ok. For e.g. general use (I'm not a body builder or anything) what high street would you suggest? Are Boots any good?

They're antioxidants.

Green Tea is said to help with weight loss via it's thermogenic effect, so it's supposed to increase body temperature. Personally I find Cayenne Pepper to be much better for that effect.

Yes really, their vitamins and stuff are poor, as are most high street supplements. Some are so bad they'll do you more harm than good imho, example here http://www.centrumistoxic.com/

A decent multi is Now Foods ADAMS Mens multi-vit but you need to buy off the net.

This is a decent one for a very reasonable price, good company too http://www.sports-nutrition.net/store.php?sub=3&id=12

At the end of the day though none of them hold a candle to some fruit and veg ;)

I see. I'll try Cayenne Pepper next time instead of GTE. Would stacking Cayenne Pepper and GTE work better? Would caffeine help (e.g. if I mix them into a cup of coffee instead of a cup of green tea as I am doing atm)?

Cheers mate :)

I know what you mean, they're called supplements for a reason, it annoys me that some people think they're adequate substitutes from real food. :(
