I am trying to find a decent place that supplies everything I need for a decent cup of green tea.

I started by trying the tea bags which are grim, well the 4 or 5 types I have tried so now want to try the loose leaf type.

Along with that I need a nice cup to drink it from and a small teapot so if there is a 'starter kit' for virgin green tea drinkers, please point them out!

This is what happens when I have a day in London at a cracking Chinese restaurant!!

Cheers

Good god. My best mate asked me to pick some up in town for him the other day. Unlickily for him Holland and Barret in my town has vanished and now become a xmas shop. Anyhow. If you find any good ones on line post back on here please.

There's many types of green tea though .... you could try Mount Fuji or The Japan Centre both of which do various green teas, (personally I tend to drink the first cold green tea listed on the Mount Fuji site.

If you are used to tea in Chinese restaurants then you may want Jasmine tea instead of Green tea.

I have both loose and bag variety and cant notice the difference. I can with regular black tea mind.

I believe Gunpowder tea may be close to what you've experienced in a chinese restaurant.

But it could be anything, e.g. a mix of jasmine + gunpowder.

You can get loose leafs anywhere but Chinese supermarkets will have some.

I put mine in a small pot and you don't get the leafs pouring through to the cups as its all brewed in the pot.

You can buy Sensha green tea in teabags (and probably loose as well) in Whittards. Sensha is the stuff they serve in Wagamama. I find it very palatable - it's one of the milder green teas.

Probably the best place to ask this but when I was in Japan the green tea we had in Osaka tasted a bit like pop corn. All the other green tea that I've tasted in the UK tastes crap by comparison. Does any one know a brand or what to buy in general so as best to mimic what I had in Japan?

Best I had were green tea with "things" ranging from Jasmine to other random flowers at a shop in Khazahstan when I visited there, but the prices for really nice tea are huuuuuuuge. Think they averaged £25-£50 per kilo converted into pounds. So very expensive, but damn while few 100g or so packages lasted they were absolutely awesome.

Yet to find anything similar to it sold in shops in UK. But a Chinese friend gave me some tea he had to try and that was awesome as well, so it lends me to believe that you need to know the right people who know difference in quality.

Would say to stay away from packets aimed at tourists they are always expensive for what they are and are no where near as good, just find a local asian shop and they should have some to at least try.

As for "starter" kit, hmmh look for small teapots in pottery places I guess, try to choose one that looks like it will filter out the leafs from your cup (ie few holes not just one at the nose)
