Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd June 2020]

That is shocking! I mean even if the goal line technology is having an extended holiday, how on earth does VAR not step in? Clear and obvious error - doesn't get any clearer!

Even the pic above doesn't do it justice - the keeper actually held the ball against the back of the post!!!!

Maybe as robfosters says going into the side netting caused the problem.

Usually they go straight to HawkEye view and show the computer generated version of the ball. The fact they have still yet to show the HawkEye view shows something isn't right with the tech.

I'm listening to bits on the radio so haven't seen a video BUT is there a case for it to me touching the line? Even by a mil? I don't know how accurate the goal line tech is though.

There was a point where our keeper was leaning against the post inside the goal, like behind the line leaning on the back of the post. I have no idea how we've got away with that.

No, when you see the clip you can see that the keeper actually holds the ball against the rear edge of the post! Definitely a technology problem!

No excuse for VAR though, it was brought in to stop mistakes from happening and they're still here.
VAR is quite prescriptive in the cases where it is allowed to be used. Given we have a (usually) reliable goal line tech, I don't think there is a stipulation that allows VAR to intervene in a 'did it cross the line' query.

Then get rid of the rigid rules that are restricting it from overruling OBVIOUS mistakes and use common sense instead. This should not be happening with video review technology available.

Must have forgot to extend the subscription over the summer for Hawkeye.

Pat Nevin saying they didn't even get a graphic up saying no goal.

Nope, Sky Sports did a replay and usually they then go straight to the HawkEye simulation after the 'real life' replay but never and haven't since.

I suspect this is the case too, not that it will stop people blaming VAR for this.

I'm sure the pundits said VAR could have stepped in anyway. No need for technical lines with that one.

The pundits can't even get their heads around the fact that 'clear and obvious' only applies to subjective interventions, I wouldn't trust them to know the rules in outlier cases like this :p
