Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [23rd-26th Oct 2020]

I thought the red was harsh, yellow card yes.

Since when does running behind someone and accidentally treading on the back of their foot warrant a red card.

The main problem is the pitchforks are already out like they were for Pickford last week. I'm trying to be unbiased but I really don't believe there was any malice from Digne.

I don't remember the same media uproar when Gomez had his ankle spun 180 degrees when Son tackled him last season.:)
Son could have made that challenge 200 times and Gomez would have got up and walked away without a mark on him 200 times - the fact that Gomes was seriously injured was incredibly unfortunate. I don't believe that Pickford intended to injure VVD, he's far too eratic and all over the place to think about that in a split second, but he's made a challenge in a way that seriously risked injuring the opponent. The injury to VVD wasn't unfortunate but inevitable. Throw in the high profile nature of the game and player and the Richarlison challenge, which was even worse and imo was clear malice involved, and of course you're going to have the pitchforks out. I don't think Pickford has helped the situation by remaining silent either. Had he come out, held his hands up. apologised but at the same time stressed it was completely accidental then he'd have been cut a lot more slack than he has been.

As for the red today. Whether it was accidental or not doesn't change the refs decision. Intent only matters in cases of violent conduct, not serious foul play. The only decision the ref has to make is whether he's seriously risked injuring the Southampton player. I would question just how accidental it was though. When you slow down the reverse angle of the incident it appears as if he changes his running pattern, straightening out his right leg just before the moment of contact. Whether he intends to step on the back of his foot or just trip him, I'm not sure and it doesn't matter, but I'm not convinced it was entirely accidental.

LOL, I know a win would have put Wolves fourth but they’ve looked distinctly average this season. They take forever to get going and struggle to score more than 1.

Hats off to Bruce, he's not got a lot to work with but he's doing a great job this season. Feel he's too underappreciated by the Newcastle supporters.
I disagree, he's got us playing horrible football with better players than last year.

It feels all Pardew again. We're riding our luck and it WILL run out.

The problem with managers like Bruce is they give supporters no hope or optimism for the future. Supporters want to believe that their club can and will progress, not simply avoid relegation and be told how lucky they are to be in that position.

Under Bruce I feel we have no real footballing identity. Some games it feels like a kick about.
