You have to understand why they've changed the interpretation. 10+ years ago you had the likes of John Terry facing up to a shot with both arms spread out, the ball would hit his arm but no pen would be given because he didn't move his arm to the ball. That's why they changed intent to cover situations where defenders have their arms in unnatural positions and slowly they've been getting stricter and stricter with this. What does it matter if he has his back to it? If his arms outside of his body then its a pen regardless of whether hes facing it or not.

Take our penalty vs Leeds, yes the ball deflects off his body and he hasn't moved his arm to the ball but he's fronted up to a shot with his arm almost horitizontal from his body - he's intentionally made himself a bigger target. Incidents like this is why they changed the rule. There's no interpretation of intent that the Dier situation falls into. He's not trying to block a shot, he's just jumping and has no control over where his arm is.
I understand why they've done what they've done, because they want to have more consistent decisions, but they've gone too far. Unless your arm is almost touching your body, pointing straight to the ground then it's a penalty and that's just silly.
The law still specifies intent. It's the interpretation of intent that has changed and as I explained, it was changed to include defenders intentionally making their body a bigger target. There will be times where this is a bit of a grey area but I'm not sure how anybody can say Dier has intentionally handled the ball or intentionally put his arm in that position, attempting to gain an advantage. But the law doesnt change just because his back is turned is what im saying. Its a silly penalty but equally i can see why its given.
The only thing i can see is for incidents like this its an indirect free kick as the advantage when you give a pen is far too great.

Typical Walker, how he's rated anything above average is beyond me, how many times does he have brain farts?
Just seen it now. The way twitter was going on I thought it was another Vardy classic. He's the master of sticking his leg into defenders and throwing himself to the ground.Didn't see the Brighton one but ball got put into Vardy and Walker grabbed him from behind, he made no effort to go for the ball just pull Vardy back
