Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th Oct - 1st Nov 2021]

You're as bad as Nick. I don't know where this attitude has come from that 3 at the back is not a thing top teams too, plenty do and have done 3 at the back.

Yeah, 5 at the back just generally relies on your wingbacks to offer a lot going forwards as almost a winger replacement. No problem with it but we have a bunch of players and a team in general that wasn't built to play like that. You certainly wouldn't have AWB at rightback for that system and you wouldn't necessarily have Greenwood, Rashford and Sancho getting regular game time.

We conceded nearly 60% possession.

Had spurs been decent the game would have had a different result.

Spurs actually had the best non scored chances I feel, Son early on from like 5 yards out and also after than one or two headers from corners.

The amount of lunging last second tackles we made to stop them shooting/scoring.

Let's not pretend we controlled the game here, we were just super clinical. The xg tells you that.

I mean if I didn't tell you the scoreline and showed you this, who would you expect the winner to be?

That is the whole point of 5 at the back though. You are never going to top possession as it is made for the counter.

Ah yes, yesterday's game is the only time in the history of football that someone has played three at the back. I forgot we must draw all conclusions from it.

Glad to get the three points, I didn't watch the game as I was getting ready for a Halloween party.

The back 5 thing is interesting, I think we have to play that formation but I don't think yesterday can be used as proof that we can get results with that formation (judging by what people are saying about how poor Spurs were and have been).

Also that formation also creates further issues in regards to playing time for certain players. I can't see where Sancho, Rashford or Greenwood get decent game time - Sancho more so because Rashford and Greenwood can come on for either Ronaldo or Cavani.

If Utd wish to play a progressive 352, then Sancho is your right wing-back. If he has the stamina, work rate and a modicum of defensive nous for the role, then he would be a far more effective weapon than Wan-Bissaka. Raises your offensive production significantly. Akin to Oxlade-Chamberlain playing that role during Wenger's final days at Arsenal.

Obviously there has been examples of where attack minded right wingers become wing backs, e.g. Valencia but would seem strange and a big gamble to completely change the trade of a young Sancho.

A quick use of the search engine with your usename and the word arteta shows you don't take your own advice
i do. i said i would give arteta 8 games or so to see where we are at.

i was beginning to doubt in after the first 3 games but kept my cards at hand and waited to see if he can turn things around
