Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd-4th Oct 2020]

No Alisson for us later today, he's picked up an injury in training. For a keeper he doesn't half get injured a lot.

Do you think he's quite large for a keeper? I certainly wouldn't suggest he is slim by any stretch (as footballers go).

World class keeper but, is his size contributing to increased injury? I could have got this completely wrong though.

He solid but hes not big by any stretch. A lot of the top keepers are his build. Neuer, Donnaruma, Oblak.

Eddie just isn't good enough at this level. Short of having decent finishing his control, passing and hold up play are terrible.

Seems to me that after last week VAR is trying to keep a low profile but surely getting decisions correct is what the ultimate aim.

So many decisions in football are not objective though which is the issue. Then you have the decisions which are objective (in theory) like offsides but which are still unpopular because goals are disallowed when a players knee is 2cm offside.

Just seen the Luiz shirt pull, how isn't that a sending off?

Awful decision.

I think this is the worst part of VAR. I’m fairly sure that the new system means you can have a handball missed by the ref in the build up to the goal (even to control the ball), but if it is not in the immediate play before the goal, the goal stands. But if the ball hits your hand and it isn’t by your side, it is a straight handball. It just doesn’t make sense to punish one after 10 slow motion replays and not even review the other.

I'd like to see subjective decisions like the tug backs given a straight red every time, even if it looks unlikely that the attacker would have got there first. You cant be sure if the player would have beaten the defender/keeper to the ball but you'll never be 100% sure because someone cheated. The offending player obviously thought that the attacker was going to get to the ball first (or a good chance they would) so they should be punished accordingly. People would soon stop blatantly grabbing shirts and you would only get the minor tugs which might not actually slow a player down much and would carry a huge risk of a sending off.
