Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Aug - 1st Sept 2022]

Milner. Headed clearance. Goes down and stays down. Play gets stop.
oh yeah, I remember now. That was after 3 Newcastle players had done the same wasn't it
What about diving I'm sure yous don't do that also. You play proper football.
we dont dive enough, but considering we dont get given penalties for blatant fouls not sure it would make any difference.

Lets not keep going round in circles arguing this same point. All teams, to varying degrees, will waste time, feign injury, dive etc. I'm not saying this as a Liverpool fan or to have a dig at Newcastle but it went a step too far yesterday and we've surely got to look at ways to prevent it in the future. Although football's a competitive sport, it's also meant to be entertaining and I can't imagine that game was very entertaining last night.

So instead of arguing about last night's game specifically, why not discuss what should be done to prevent time wasting. There's been lots of chat on twitter after the game about the need for a NBA/NFL type timer system - instead of having 45 minute halves, have 30 minute halves but the clock stops whenever the ball is out of play. That would certainly fix part of the problem and make the game far more consistent but unfortunately I don't think it will change the amount of times players are going down feigning injury because it's as much to do with killing the momentum within a game as it is actually wasting time.

That would be my choice, as you say it wont stop it entirely but it would be a step in the right direction. What we have at the moment , at best isnt working and at worst is actually being condoned/justified. Commentators especially are terrible for condoning/justifying it. They says things like "you can see they are doing everything they can to disrupt the game, which you might expect when you are playing at Anfield/Emirates/Etihad etc" - well no, no...YOU might expect that Mr Commentator but I expect people to play football and try their best with their skills to win the match, not to do what they can to avoid playing football. I set my bar higher.

Any head injury and the player should be off the field for 5 minutes minimum for assessment. Things like cramp there's nothing you can do - it's obvious what's occuring as you very rarely see players do it when they are losing. Refs just need to be stronger and start punishing goalkeepers who take the **** with holding onto the ball longer than 6 seconds, start dishing them out early and it will soon stop.

Are these ******* for real, callous and classless

After what happened to that poor little girl last week, its a little bit classless. But i come to expect that from some scousers
A Newcastle fan trying to take the moral high ground after bending over and welcoming your new owners all because Ashley wouldn't spend is pretty funny.

Come on, we really need to start realising that 99% of what people do isn't a calculated political statement or a nasty slight against someone.

Perhaps before each game players should have to explain what celebration they will do if they score and have an ethics committee decide if someone might be offended by it.

Most footballers probably put more effort into coming up with their goal celebrations than they do reading the news or thinking about the political climate in the world right now.

I might be wrong but I doubt it.

Could be worse I suppose, its not like they grabbed hold of a water bottle and threw it at someones head because they were having a strop over the scoreline :D
