Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 10th March 2021]

Utds passing on point as usual:rolleyes:

Part of that is that if a team pressures us we don't have any natural out balls or shape to break the press. Each player gets the ball under pressure and the only pass he is sure of is backwards. If he wants to go forwards he has to stop, look up and see who is where on the pitch. There isn't enough time to do that when you have one or more players on you. Its why the top teams are well coached and know where their teammates are at all times and what passes will be available. It takes the moment to moment decision making out of the players choices and makes their job much easier.

Didn't expect Klopp to make as many changes to the team as he did today but I did expect more dropped points.

Jota and Salah looked pretty sharp, Keita showed glimpses of his ability but it was otherwise the same stale football that we've had to endure for months.

We're heading down the table fast with no sign from Klopp that he thinks it's worth changing anything. This isn't a temporary blip, there are very clear fundemantal issues with our tactics and ones that mean we won't be seeing a miraculous change in fortune next season unless things change.

Genuine question, what else can Klopp change?

What else can he change? Other than swapping players, he's changed very little so he could change a lot.

The players we have available don't suit a high line so that would be a start. With two fast centrebacks and Fabinho/Henderson ahead of them, a highline is absolutely fine so I expect our defensive record to drastically improve again next season, assuming VVD and Gomez retain their pace. It's just a complete write off now because of the players we have available.

I'm far more concerned about our attack. Our creativity has come from our fullbacks for the last few seasons but more and more teams are packing the box because they know it completely stops us creating chances.

We tried something different against Sheffield United but we went back to cross spamming again today. I don't expect teams to play any different against us next season so we either need a taller striker to get on the end of those crosses or a genuine plan B.

I have no idea what a plan B would look like but given our run of form, given we're so open to the ball over the top and given we aren't creating chances now, trying anything has to be better than trying the same thing and expecting different results.

Think this game is just a question of how long will it be before city level... we just seem to be holding on in the last 15 mins or so of play. (Before and after the 2nd half start)

Edit: I should say that more often... Shaw! :D

When Shaw is fit and confident he is a great player. I just hope we can keep him that way.

Taylor doesn't seem to want to give us anything this half.

Rashford been really poor today. I wonder if that injury is worse than they are letting on. His decision making isn't the best but its been awful today in a match where we could seal it with better execution in the final third.
Pleased for Shaw - he's really proved me wrong this season.

Would certainly explain the performances. He's been very poor recently
