Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 15th September 2024]

I said after the last game we can’t keep playing **** and stealing a win before we get found out. Turns out we can for at least one more game but they’ve got to get on top of it sharpish.

Hopefully this momentum will help.

I’m quite happy where we are at the moment. Our start to the season looked tricky with away games at Villa and Spurs, Brighton at home ain’t a picnic either, whereas City have beaten a first game disorganised Chelsea and Ipswich, West Ham and Brentford. We’ve come through those dropping just 2 points. Even if the worst happens next week, we’ll still only be 5 points behind with 33 games left to play, so things are looking better than what I expected tbh. Could have easy dropped 6 points against Spurs and Villa, especially today without Ode and Rice. Luckily Spurs midfield (if you can call it that) was worse. Maddison looked dreadful in a game he could have really had an impact in. I think even spurs fans are disappointed in the way he’s turning out lately

It's easy to look at your lot and think you're just riding your luck, but it happens all too often. The sign of a good team is when they keep pulling wins out of the bag despite not playing very well.

You just have to hope those injuries aren't too serious.

I watched the Newcastle game this morning on demand when I already knew the score, probably an easier watch knowing the result however it was a familiar pattern. Dominated the first quarter of the game without really threatening, lose their way in the middle and then a couple of game changing substitutions from Howe and some individual brilliance sneaks the win. Pope pulled off a class save at 60 mins, Trippier came on not long after and from there they were much the better side, Newcastle having two chances they really should have scored towards the end too.
Superb result from another average performance but it's looking clear that it's not a side that is beaten easily although I still maintain they at times look like a team that is ready to receive an absolute trousering, rather than one ready to dish one out. Not happened yet though so hard to complain about it. Fulham away next week and hopefully closer to getting some first team players back. :)
