Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 16th January 2025]

Confidence needs to be built, and despite the bad performance, that's still a very important result...

I don't think Amad can be at wing back again, he's got to be in one of those forward positions, playing off Zirkzee. See how that goes for a couple of games...
Good shout with Zirkzee. He should have a little more confidence with that performance too you’d hope.

So, next game, start Hojlund then stick Zirkzee on after 10 minutes. Seems to be the way these two work. Whoever comes on as a sub looks miles better than the starter.

Do you think Hojlund is good enough?
I'm erring towards no. Honestly Chris Wood was better last night.

Never in doubt....

Turgid performance again for 45 minutes....

Dug out by an excellent and hard working hattrick from Amad.

Substitutions changed the game.

@Calpol I don't "mind" Hojland but they desperately need a proper striker / centre forward. Have done for years...He's hard working, still very young, and needs to "beef" up a bit. But to be fair to him gets zero service/through balls.

Saying that - a new striker/centre forward needs to be top class - And that won't come cheap....

I don't think he's a natural goalscorer. He spends too much time and energy getting involved in physical duels that he won't win (he's no Mark Hughes). Agree on service but he also doesn't attack the right spaces. To be left with a squad that only has him and Zirkzee is yet another indictment of how poor the recruitment has been. Everytime Antony plays we are reminded of just how badly this club is run.

As with most of our players I flit between yes and no about 3 times a week. Give him service and he will score goals but that service needs to be final balls or runs in behind. His all around game is weak. He was managed out of the game today. Barely got a sniff.

Our issues are manyfold and players can look completely different from game to game. Tonight we ended up with a back 5 most of the game as the opposition played through the middle of the pitch at will and then played balls over the top to their left winger to have Yoro on toast. We had no support in the middle or on the wings. We've fundamentally not got the key players for this system right now.

The wing backs and 10s are key and we are arguably missing 3 out of the 4.

He's got an insane amount of experience and nouse, the result of all that is that in twilight of his career he's banging them in. Hojlund has every chance of becoming that player and more.
