Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 21st February 2024]

I haven’t given you any replacements. Liverpool bought Diaz recently. City bought Doku. Newcastle bought Gordon. I would take any of those over Rashford. There are left wingers around.

There’s Mitoma, Rafael Leao, Nico Williams, Chiesa, Kvaratskhelia. I’m sure there are plenty more young and upcoming players as well.
I’d love Mitoma

Brighton would absolutely rip us a new one for Mitoma and he hasn't even been better than Rashford, you want to pay more for a downgrade? Gordon is the only one of those that you might argue has been better than Rashford and that is only this season. Chiesa is a sicknote, Leao is a worse Rashford. Williams and Kvar are the only two that seem possible and both have only had one good season. The latter would be over 100m too.

Have you taken attitude and effort into the consideration regarding Mitoma? I imagine we’d get many more chances with him and he would naturally score more in a ‘better’ team.

He seems more of a team player and a complete player than Rashford will ever be.

Would he? We haven't been much better than Brighton over the last 2 seasons, they've scored a lot more goals (13 more than us this season) I don't see why he'd suddenly get more goal involvements than in a team that is scoring more.

I think we have seen time and time again that it takes a lot more than a few great performances for a club like Brighton to be able to make it at a club as big as United. I'd far rather give Diallo some game time this season to see if he has anything about him at the top level.

Yeah, I take your point there regarding goals. But still think he’d improve the team over Rashford and his footballing brain. That’s just my feeling, I’m not really a stats man and never have been. Just make my judgements on watching the players and Mitoma seems a level above as a team player and in the intelligent play stakes.

@Calpol agree regarding Amad. Would like to see him given a chance. I’d like to think we might turn a corner on killing off players careers, but that might be a longer term goal!

I feel that is mostly confirmation bias. I doubt you watch every Brighton game so you're only seeing the highlights of Mitoma while seeing every play by Rashford. It's what leads to a lot of people claiming x,y,z player from Europe would be great when in fact they just don't watch much of them.

If this shower get a CL spot over us or spurs there's no justice.
Not sure I follow. The league doesn't lie and whilst we've not been great, no-one has thrashed Luton this season. Liverpool and Arsenal were both lucky to get points there and Luton have shown they can also play well away. Plenty to play for and I'd still have Villa as favourites for 4th or 5th. Spurs looking less likely atm.

I think we might be able to nick 4th, but Villa are still playing quite well. We've improved but it only takes an injury or two for things to fall apart again...

Whatever happens, things are looking much brighter off the pitch and that is critical!
