Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 3rd April 2025]

I said the same re ETH/Utd in relation to their chances of winning the FA Cup last season and we know how that ended but I can't help but think Spurs may as well roll the dice and sack Ange. Given the breakdown in his relationship with Spurs fans it's hard to see how he can possibly have a long term future at the club. Spurs look horrendous right now and despite that, they still have a plausible chance of turning a terrible season into a successful one with the Europa League. They probably have the strongest squad of all the sides left in it and should be the favourites to win it but it's hard to see how they could given how badly they're playing right now.

Supporting a championship team, Leeds United, we often have our games on Sky, we quite often get a PL referee and I prefer having non PL refs, reason being. The PL referees rely to heavily on VAR, they’re hesitant to make the big calls and allow too many big calls to be ignored.

VAR has made PL referees go soft. Watch one officiating in the Championship when you get a chance, watch the difference in performance as they look lost without VAR assisting them

Watched the match with my Spurs supporting neighbour last night and he's very much under the impression that only the Europa League will save him and even then it may not be enough.

I'm not sure even winning the Europa will save him. It's not uncommon for managers to get abuse from the stands but you don't usually see the manager turn round and start giving it back to the crowd. Almost every week there's a video of him arguing with a supporter and he gave it the big one last night - Spurs fans boo'd his subs and started chanting 'you don't know what you're doing' and when Sarr (a sub) scored, he turned to the crowd, cupped his ear and then waved at them. The fact that it was then ruled out made it hilarious of course.

When supporters turn on a manager they rarely survive but I can't think of a time when a manager has turned on the fans and ever survived.

Ange has form for this though iirc, it turned ugly when he managed the Australian national team.

It was always going to end this way, I said as much to my mates even when they were flying high at the top of the league in his few games. Shame really as he’s come across as a decent bloke.
