Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th Dec - 1st Jan 2025]

I think the situation is a lot more complex than it's being made to sound. All of them will be asking for massive wages. VVD and Mo will also likely be asking for a longer extension than FSG want to give. At least one of them, if not both, will drop off at some point in the next couple of seasons, and ripping up the wage structure for two older players is hugely risky. As for Trent, his head has clearly been turned.

So the question is what should we have done? Arguably, we should have sold Mo when we could have got £100m plus for him, but we then wouldn't be having this season. We would never have got much for VVD since his ACL - even if he goes this year, we're better having him this season than the small amount of money we'd have got. Further, with Klopp going, selling either of them at the same time would have added to the damage.

Trent is quality, but again, is he worth breaking the wage structure for?

I'd give two criticisms - first, Trent should have been better handled, and if he wasn't going to re-sign a year ago we should have put him on the market. Second, having this happen with all three simultaneously is far from ideal, although it's unclear to me what we could have done about that.

There isn't a Salah replacement out there, I dont even think there's someone putting up similar numbers to what he was doing in Italy (goal every other game)

Surely least give Salah and Dijk 2 year deal, or 1+1 extension which is optional if they drop off we can cut losses so to speak.

Trent is probably in most awkward position from a personal point of view he is in his prime so if he does want to experience another league or country this is his best chance to do so. He has won everything with us and wouldn't begrudge him of it myself.

If he signs say a 5 year deal, chances are Madrid or other clubs wont look at him on a free when he is 30+

How do you know this hasn't been proposed and rejected?
It may well of, im not saying it has or hasn't, but if it has id of expected some noise as FSG will want to spin it that they tried etc

We all know many supporters are dumb and don't see logic so lets face it if all three go FSG will get grief galore, Trent will get abuse being a local lad, it will be stupid
