Tbf they had no choice. Utd can't live with City and trying to play vs them would have resulted in a far quicker turn around. Their only chance was hoping that City just find a way not to score.

It's fair to say that United are weakened in defence but ten Hag really shows no sign of closing the chasm between these two teams. I still think we are three seasons away from being closer to a title challenging team if City are the standard. The contrast between De Bruyne and Fernandes is stark and so much of what United do goes through him. Oh well, we expected a shallacking but looks like we might at least avoid that. 2-1 does not really tell the story though.
