Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [10th - 12th August 2018]

3 points, 4 goals, a clean sheet and an excellent performance.

Alisson looked a bit nervous when he was closed down, and gave the ball away a few times, but that's understandable given he's new to the club and the fact the microscope will be on him for the first few games.

Keita though, wow. He's the player Can and his agent thought Can was.

Before kick-off I was ever so slightly nervous about playing West Ham on the opening day. Without a natural sitting midfielder, an unfamiliar CB pairing and general rustyness on the opening day, West Ham have got some attacking players that can cause you some problems but it wasn't to be and in the end they played right into our hands. Mane & Salah will get the headlines but our midfield 3 were quietly brillant today - breaking up every thing and so comfortable and composed on the ball and had our front 3 been really on it today then we could have scored 6 or 7.

I doubt it will get much of a mention from all the pundits but Keita's role for our first goal is so good. 99 times out of 100 when a player gets the ball in his position he just hits it straight out to Robertson who'll then be crossing from 30 yards out but his presence of mind to carry the ball forward and commit the West Ham defender before playing in Robertson is what creates the goal. He's such an understated player but he always plays the right pass at the right time.

Only negative today was I had 3-0 in the prediction league and was on course for a records points total for a 10 game round!

Really? The only misplaced pass I can think of was when he tried to chip the ball out to Robertson in the 2nd half and given the type of pass he was playing, I'm not sure you could put that down to nerves. I thought his passing was outstanding - early in the first half when he arrowed a 60 yard pass straight into Salah right in the centre of the pitch is the sort of pass you expect from a Xabi Alonso, not a keeper. There was several others where he's just pinged the ball out to Trent or Robertson.

Guendouzi starting ahead of Torreira is interesting but it makes sense given he's had a proper preseason and has impressed so far.

No Silva in the squad and De Bruyne on the bench so theres a chance we might not get pumped.

Rarely do Liverpool fans actually say that lol.

Guendozi starting is a surprise, i didnt watch any of Arsenal in pre season but he must have impressed!

Is Torreira injured?

He did it a few times and also played a few risky passes but I might be confusing nervousness with confidence after having had to endure three seasons of keepers ******* the bed whenever a ball entered our half.

Just checked and 29 completed passes from 31 attempted - can't imagine there's many more keepers with passing stats as good as that. I think you've hit the nail on the head re nervousness vs confidence - all the talk when we signed him was to be prepared for some hairy moments because he backs himself to play out of tight areas and make difficult passes.
Not looked at reasons but that's an odd City side
Silva's injured and KdB's barely had a pre-season. Would have thought Sane would have played though - he tore Arsenal to bits last season.

Sterling actually taking players on AND getting a shot on target? Who was that bloke pretending to be him at the world cup?
