Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [10th - 13th March 2012]

Kuyt mentally weak at penalties? lol

We are a joke? We are one of the top 7 teams in England, does that make everyone else below us a joke and more? We've spent a fair load of money on average players but I'm not sure why you're being so depressed when we could have been in administration 18 months ago.

We won the carling cup, we just did the double in the derby and we have a shot at the FA Cup, sorry if 4th and league titles are the only trophies and things worth cheering for you.

I think most fans just want to see the team show enough consistency to finish a season in the league with something to play for, even just a CL spot. Cups aside we've been very dubious, yet again. Inability to score goals, inability to kill games off, attempting to defend 1 goal leads for long periods, conceding late goals, a couple of embarrassing thumping's, the same players under performing game after game. The ability is clearly there but it fails to turn up far too often, and with some players not at all. I'd really hoped Kenny had put to bed the beat the top team then lose to Fulham mentality. It's futile. You don't need to beat the top three to win the PL.

We've played some good football at times, but it's very frustrating to see us come away with so few points. I don't think we're far off but it's going to be tough to bridge the gap. Most of the top teams have struggled this year and I expect them to all to spend big (the same or more than us) over the summer.

It's also frustrating to see so much investment and expectation going into the youth setup with very little talent coming through to the 1st team.

The thing with Everton last night was that they won the midfield battle quite a lot, then forgot how to play football in the final third.

Every time they got in or around the 18-yard box they fluffed the shot/cross/pass.

I think they flattered the Liverpool defence somewhat but that's not to try and take anything away from a well-deserved 3-0 victory.

It's when City were relegation candidates that they tended to beat us most often :(

If there's one good thing to come out of them getting a sugar daddy it's that the derby actually means something to our players again. Since they came into money the record stands

P: 12
W: 8
D: 1
L: 3

Was expecting a better game last night, not even one red card! Everton just seemed to put in half a performance, they didn't really look as though they were in a derby game, the game just felt kind of flat.

Everton, or Moyes more to the point is a joke. Drenthe has been brilliant for them, he has faults but, jesus, he insists on sticking with Pienaar who was absolutely abysmal last night and is in the majority of his games. Ruddy commentator would again after another awful choice of pass talk about how Pienaar was running the game. He gave away the ball leading the first two goals directly, first time running into the box rather than win the ball he waited for it and got it easily stolen off him, lazy and crap play. Second time he got a pass on the wing and fell over like a girl.

Everton though, Heitinga has been great lately, Drenthe a real threat, Osman one of the better players in their win over Spurs, so all three get dropped for the woeful Anichibe, Pienaar got another game despite being useless against Spurs, etc, etc. Moyes does what Fergie does, randomly has certain players he picks for certain games. Fergie will pick Park in "tough" games no matter how utterly awful he is over and over again.

Drenthe is "too attacking" so won't get picked, even if that might actually lead to them winning a game. Why he got Pienaar back I have no clue, last night he gave the ball away time after time, some very good counters at Liverpool with people infront and down each wing and he put passes in behind people and basically directly to Pool players every time, utterly useless.

I think I've just over the weekend. Can someone please explain to me why Harry isn't playing Bale on the left? AK keeps filling in as well as playing LB and keeps getting caught. Why change a working system? Surely a 4-4-2 only works efficiently with two attacking wingers?

Not taking anything away from Arsenal they have performed with such vigour and determination. All the Wenger doubters should be ashamed of themselves really. You may not have had the silverware in the cupboard but there are a far more teams in relative competition now but Arsen does know what he's doing. Make no doubt of that. Arsenal do seem to have have one thing that Spurs will never have.. and that's that little bit of luck when it's most needed.. Mainly in injury time ;).

If they take 3rd place, and I'm sure they will.. Then good luck to them. More fool on Spurs for taking things too much for granted and changing things where they weren't needed.

Huddy you highlighted the difference between the two sides in your first paragraph, one has Wenger and one has Redknapp. If we finish above you it'll be down to him (and RvP of course), because at times this year our squad (and often our first 11) has been really quite poor, some of it down to injuries, some just down to lack of depth.

It's not 'luck' ;)

To be fair to Spurs they've had 3 very tough games on the trot, Arsenal & Everton away with us in the middle is tricky for any team and other than Chelsea that's Spurs done with the top 6 now so I'm sure they'll push on again now the easy games are coming again.

Long term though Spurs inability to win these games is why they're still quite a bit behind being genuine title contenders.
