Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [10th - 14th January 2014]

Good 3 pts from last night, didnt get a chance to watch the game but saw the highlights of the game earlier today, 2 very good goals by Jack and Giroud...good to see him scoring again.

Still top of the league but with our injuries, cant see us winning the title barring a miracle ie City or Chelsea going on a bad run of results. Still got my money on City to win the EPL and we will probably end up 2nd or 3rd.

Watched the Newcastle game and thought Newcastle got screwed by the linesman and the ref for the disallowed goal. Cant see why they would have disallowed that goal, looked perfectly fine to me even on the replays. Refs are really starting to ruin games this season with their inability to referree properly.

Another 3 pts against Fulham this weekend, shouldnt be a problem as we are at home but we really need to start smashing some goals in to try and claw that GD difference that City has back.

Another 3 points for Arsenal. Seem quite different this year in the fact that we are able to grind out results. Per & Kos are doing a fantastic job at the back and if they continue on with this form, we should be staying up in the running at least.
Not expecting to win the league by any means, but it sure does beat what everyone expected after the first game of the season (which I think was the best result we could have had, forced us to make some moves!)

There's been a lot of talk about Gerrard's importance to Liverpool lately and in particular the position he should play, and I know to a lot of Liverpool fans, one on here in particular, Rafa Benitez's opinion counts for a lot. Here's what he's had to say about Gerrard and the position he plays in his column in the Independent:

A lot of people talk about the strikers but do they realise how much Steven Gerrard still brings to Liverpool, because I have seen more talk this season about whether he is the same “Gerrard of old” – as you like to say in England.

It was interesting to see him playing in the deeper regista role in the win against Stoke City, because regular readers of this column will know why I think he has the qualities to be an influence there. It is his anticipation, ability to pass long and short with incredible accuracy and also dictate the tempo. Not many players can do that.

Gerrard’s return is very important. He is one of the best players I have worked with; an analyser who can play anywhere and still cause trouble in the box. He has always played with a lot of patience and commitment but now it is easier for him because he has more experience, has worked with different managers and has different visions of how teams can play.
