Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 16th April 2019]

@BaZ87 Serious question Baz, all jokes aside, how would you feel if Utd put out a weakened side against City?

Would you accept it as Utd looking after themselves, or do you think Utd pretty much throwing a game against one of their biggest rivals, would be making a mockery of the title race and the league?

I'm not sure how it could possibly be argued that fielding a weakened side vs City was looking after themselves. Given your result today, in arguably your hardest remaining fixture, Utd are going to need to take as close to maximum points as possible to have a chance of finishing 4th. Switching the Spurs and Utd in your example - if Spurs fielded a weakened side on Saturday, having likely run themselves into the ground on Wednesday, knowing they have a game in hand and effectively a 2 point buffer over 5th and very winnable remaining fixtures, I'd have no issue whatsoever.

Utd play Chelsea just four days after City. City is their game in hand. If results go as they should, a win for Utd against Chelsea would see them leapfrog Chelsea. That could be a massive game and one that Utd will want to be absolutely top strength for.

Also, Watford looked a tough game, but I certainly don’t think away at Leicester and Wolves, or even Burnley, look any easier. Three tough games with our away form. We can’t bank on suicide missions all the time from our opponents. Top fours in our hands but I’m not confident at all. Good finishes from Utd or Chelsea could still see us pushed out quite easily.

Leapfrog Chelsea into 5th. With Burnley all but safe that game for Arsenal suddenly becomes a lot easier than it looked a few weeks ago - a loss for Utd vs City would mean Arsenal may only need 1 point from the Leicester and Wolves games. It would be a huge gamble from Utd to sacrifice the City game, hoping to rest players for a game vs Chelsea that they could easily drop points in anyway and even if they didn't, may not make any difference to their top 4 hopes.
