Is it me or has this felt like the Longest. Summer. Ever? No World Cup football, no European Championship football, no... football of any real note at all. Like entering a dark post-apocolyptic world where all hope and reason has been lost. A barren wasteland of Premier League football-less devastation. Purgatory. Well step into the light my friends, for top flight action returns this very day. Rejoice. Shout for joy. Embrace one another. And then settle in for nine long months of grown men getting paid absolute shedloads to kick a leather bag of air around a field. Don't you just love it?

And me. To be honest I'd have preferred Kelly to Flanagan either way, although fair play to Flanagan for pushing himself into the side. Does this mean that Kenny sees Kelly ultimately playing at CB?

Hope so, eventual back four of Johnson, Kelly, Cahill (?), Enrique would be excellent.

Nope. Have to question with all the money spent during the summer where the flair is in the team? If Suarez gets injured it's a team of workmen and nothing else

That's the only thing I can think of and would explain Soto's exclusion from the squad too.

Not overly surprised with Enrique or Suarez starting though; Aurelio's said to have picked up a knock and Kenny had no problem throwing Suarez in without even a training session in January so 5 days training is more than enough.

Unless he's got a knock, it looks pretty certain that Aquilani's leaving too.
